HCMC residency for DO?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I have seen no DOs in Emergency (there are none in the current 3 classes), although there are a couple around the hospital.

One resident told me that there are as many as 50 DOs in the state of Minnesota now... it was unclear whether he was kidding.

I can check if others have more/better info.

I don't know if there's a policy about it. Looking at their website, they don't list any DOs as graduates going back as far as 1997 and none of their faculty are DOs either.

There are ~150 DOs in Minnesota, last time I checked (attendings). Last AOA president was from Minnesota Darrell Buehler (and EP/FP).

I agree, haven't heard that Hennepinn is very accepting of DOs in their residency. This year might be a first, you never know.

I confirmed with a resident: there haven't been any in recent memory, but we see no evidence there is any particular reason for that. Maybe the pool of DO applicants has been small (very likely) or not as competitive (possible). I have no info on whether DOs have been offered spots and declined, interviewed and not been offered a spot, or just not been in the pool of potential interviewees.

Dr. Flannigan is right: somebody's got to be first. Ya can't know until you try, eh?

On that note, I was just rejected last week from HCMC.

I just commented about this on another thread - but I heard from a DO friend of mine who rotated/interviewed there that his interviewer told him that they once (only once) ranked a DO, but that DO musta not ranked them high enough, because they've never matched a DO. Not sure why.
