So I will be PGY-1 and I'm really interested in cardiology. Got letter from program and you can request particular ICU/outpatient clinics.
I was thinking about requestion Cardiac ICU and Cards consults in my first year. Is there any suggestions on what kind of early exposure to the field is important? Just asking around. Thanks.

I'm starting fellowship this summer.

I signed up for early cardiology rotations to start to get to know cardiology faculty and find a research mentor. Just make sure that you perform well. Spending a couple months of doing something else to get to know the hospital's system may be worth it though.

In your first year...do u honestly think u can do well on a cardiac ICU?
Advices from seniors indicate that it is better to chase those electives in your second year when u have a better grasp of the sytem

In many programs, the cardiac ICU is not an elective but a requirement during both the intern year and once in the senior resident years.

We moved all of our CICU time to the 2nd and 3rd years because it was such a clusterf*** for the interns. But our VA ICU is mixed so you get CICU and MICU cases as the ICU intern.
