interested in the orascoptic freedom cordless light - anyone tried it? any thoughts?

Personally no, but I know a girl in my class who had them for a while and got rid of them. Too bulky? Poor balance? I can't remember what her reason was, but it was something along those lines. I'll ask her again if I remember.

Has anyone tried one of the headlights that come on a headband instead of the ones that clip on to the loupes?

In all four years of dental school, I've only seen one person with that, and he was a huge dork. Just saying

we're going to look like dorks regardless. Both of the dentists I shadowed use them and I'm just wondering if they're more comfortable than the type that attach directly to the loupes

I can't see how they would be. Tight band around the head vs. small clip on the frames you'd be wearing anyway? The only time I can think of where they might be useful would be in sterile surgeries, where you need the added stability, i.e. can't just unglove and adjust your frames if they slide down your nose.

I just see the extra weight on your face being uncomfortable after awhile.

Depends on the brand, I guess. My Lumadent is 5 grams, so the weight is pretty much negligible. I know people complain about the weight of other brands, though.

Oh ok that doesn't sound bad. Thanks for the tips 👍

I bought the lumadent and I'm really happy with the quality of it. Couple of my classmates bought it as well and they like it too, especially for the price. From looking at the $800+ ones I don't see them as any better in any way. Customer service is awesome as well.

That being said, I never use mine because the extra weight from the cord tilts my loupes off to the side and drives me crazy.

I think the headband type would be more comfortable, despite being "dorky."

Are you sure the strap on your loupes is tight enough? Or maybe your cable is getting snagged when you move. I've used much heavier headlights on my relatively cheap loupes and I've never had this problem.

What brand of loupes are you using?
