My brother just referred me to this site , everyone's so helpful , it's great !

I'm an IMG/US citizen seeking a Pediatric residency,through 2007 MATCH .

Can anyone advise me on which States/Cities/Hospitals I'd have a better chance at getting accepted ? You know ; equal oppurtunity , no stereotyping !

Do you know about any current residents wearing it who got fair oppurtunities ? The two I know are USGs .

I'd appreciate any guidance. Thanks.

AlSalamo 3alaykom Yesmeena,
I'm in the same boat as you. I have also been applying to pediatric residencies- dental- (for 3 years now)..but decided to apply to international programs--in which I got accepted🙂
It is just so competitive, so I thought that being a US grad will increase my chances.
I've been to an interview at Tufts..and there was a mohagaba resident.
Good luck.

Wa3laykum Assalam Dear AmbitiousDent ,

Thanks for your feedback & congrats on being accepted ! My brother is a Dental Foreign Grad. too & is having the same hard time landing a program. But things are looking brighter for him now alhamdullilah, though I can't say I fully understand your whole application process ( he's tried to educate me many times ! Some sister I am ! 🙄 ).

Could you maybe tell me where you got accepted & what your scores were (even via private message/email ) ? Maybe I could help him out with a tip or something .

If you'd rather not , I'll understand , thanks anyway . But if so , I'll look forward to returning your kindness if you need anything too .

I am a man (fourth year US med student) but I know of a couple of medical students who wear hijab in small midwest towns. I have not asked them specifically about discrimination but they seem happy. The one is like president of a club and she is very social.
I think medical field is so different from the rest of society and medical field is alot more accepting. They care more about your knowledge and how hardworking you are.
My advice to you is to apply all over US, programs in small states are easier to get into.
Even though I am a man, I have an accent and people always ask me where I am from. Despite that I am happy here in a small midwest town (population under one million). I am planning to do my residency here and am not planning to go to big cities like chicago, New york , LA etc.

Good luck

Hey Ambitiousdent,
I am going to Tufts for dental school this fall, insha Allah. Man, there are so many Arabs at the school! 🙂 I also saw a muthajiba resident. We probably saw the same one! Lol well, maybe not cuz I interviewed last year. Where are you planning on living? Where did you graduate from?
