My brother just referred me to this site , everyone's so helpful , it's great !

I'm an IMG/US citizen seeking a Pediatric residency,through 2007 MATCH .

Can anyone advise me on which States/Cities/Hospitals I'd have a better chance at getting accepted ? You know ; equal oppurtunity , no stereotyping !

Do you know about any current residents wearing it who got fair oppurtunities ? The two I know are USGs .

I'd appreciate any guidance. Thanks.

i have never heard of anyone being discriminated against (in the world of the residency selection process) because they wear a headscarf. are you asking because you know someone who has? i mean, because technically its illegal, and that person could make a big stink about it, if they wanted to. this is medicine- its full of educated people from many different cultures and customs ...

i may be being really niave (im not a resident yet- i'll be in the same match as you), but i dont think its something you have to worry about, unless you went to some weird backwoods country where no one ever saw an ethnic minority before (not to many residencies in those places though, so i dont think its going to be a problem for you). 🙂

Dear Raspberry Swirl ,

Thanks for your feedback , I appreciate it . I must say I admire your keeness to set things straight . 🙂

It's just that my education kept me away from the States for a while , & I'm not sure how things are now. Honestly haven't heard anything specific , but I guess I was just adding to my worries about scores !!!!

Best of luck to us all in the MATCH ! 👍

Hey,
I wear the headscarf and I had no problem at all doing my interviews. Everywhere I went everyone was incredibly nice, and most were just really interested in what my clinical experience has been (i'm an IMG too), and why I chose the specialty and stuff. I think what's important to them is if you're a nice person or not and they can actually work with you, and if you can do the work.
3 were like small community hospitals too that aren't too multiethnic, and they were among my top choices. (though I do think if you're talking about living environment, a multiethnic place would have more variety like with foods and things to do on the weekend!)

So, don't let anything stop you, and start it all with a big smile!!
