Health Insurance for residents and spouses

If insurance says it coveres residents and dependents, is my spouse consider a dependent? If not ,how much typiclaly are people paying to cover the spouse?

If it covers a dependent (a child), it will usually cover a spouse.

At my program spouses/partners can be covered, but unless you and the significant other are married you must pay the entire premium for their insurance, which can be pricey. But for us it is money well spent as she could not get health coverage otherwise since she is self employed and has a pre-existing medical problem.
