So i've got a heat rash on both hands now, pretty much from being in surgery/scrubbing in etc. Anyone else have this happen to them?; it's a good thing this is the last week before i'm on SICU and don't have to do it, but nevertheless, it's a pain in the rear end cause 1. it looks scary, 2. it itches...a lot.

sounds more like a latex allergy

Really? Aren't those brown sterile gloves latex free though?

never heard of heat rash from gloves honestly. dunno if you're using latex or not but if you are i'd make sure that whatever gloves you have been using are latex free.

Nah it's not from the gloves I think, but moreso from the super hot water we scrub with + the heat of the actual OR compounded by the doubling up of the gloves...but i'll check tomorrow.

Make sure you're not using latex.. change the type of brush you are using to scrub with. Usually you can adjust the water temp, there is no need for it to be scalding hot.

Survivor DO

Grab the packaging of the inner gloves you are wearing and go talk to student/occupational health. Latex free is not allergy/irritant free.

I thought my hands were irritated just from washing them a lot and wearing gloves all day. It turns out I get a rash from the normal latex free sterile gloves made of nitrile (no problems with latex gloves). Student health gave me a letter that gets me access to different gloves than normally stocked in each room and my hands healed up even with continuing to scrub in and wear gloves the same amount as before. No problems at all when I did a rotation later at a different hospital that uses latex gloves.

You could be:

1. allergic to the gloves (which are likely latex, unless your entire institution is latex-free).
2. allergic to the scrub soap
