Hi! I mean there are probably tons of forums like these out here but I'm a little stumped right now for what classes to enroll in for my first semester of college. Of course I'm trying to make sure I get enough classes yet leave enough time to adjust and develop a social life, etc. And I'm wondering if this is too much?

Biology 181, 4 hours
Chemistry 101 + Lab, 4 hours
Precalculus, 3 hours
LSC 101 ((Mandatory for Life Sciences Majors)) (Critical and Creative Thinking in the Life Sciences), 2 hours
Special Topics in University Studies ((For my Living Learning Community), 1 hour
Intro into Humanities and Social Sciences, 2 hours

With the precalculus I made a mistake this senior year and thought I was cool and clever not taking a math class this year when I should have been taking precalc, my mistake. And the humanities class if for my planned minor or I could replace it with a health and exercise class and wait a semester.

One last thing, sorry. Do you think I'd be okay taking my Eng 101 class the second semester and still be okay with college work in terms of papers? Not too sure how many of my classes will require a paper of such up there, but you know.

The jump from high school to college can be challenging since tests are completely different from what you are used to and time management is key. I personally suggest keeping your first year light, so you can get the swing of things and then take a heavier load once you can manage all the classes. The classes only get more difficult, so if you struggle first year your GPA can suffer.

I would personally stick to taking just one of the science classes with a lab so you can manage it all, but those are my 2 cents!

One of the best things that I did was to wait to take Bio until I was a sophomore (assuming you are not a bio major). I felt that I was a much better student after learning how to study as a freshman and O-Chem and Bio was easy. With the new MCAT, it is important to start your chemistry sequence as a freshman since you will need to get Biochem in before you take the test, but if you can delay Bio for a semester or a year, you may end up with a higher GPA. I know I did.

This is very typical of what premeds take their first year (except we usually take Calc instead of Precalc).
