:hello:Hello,

I am a gas applicant who will be starting internship soon. As Jan approaches, I'm really freaking out because I don't want to kill any patients or get fired...but I've been lab whoring this past year since graduation and I don't even remember how to take a pulse .

I really don't want to be a drag on my team when I do start.

My questions are:
1. What one book in your opinion should I use as an intern? (unable to open threads addressing this in stickies above)
It would be nice if everyone had their own opinion of what works.

2. In your individual experiences, what's the one thing in your mind, an intern would do to really mess up?

Thank you. I understand this is the holidays but hopefully responses trickle in with time?🙂

HAPPY HOLIDAYS

Eta - no highlighting text in multiple colors 😉? The IM forum seems to have a strange calming effect

I too would like to know this. I checked out a few books on amazon and besides the MGH pocket guide, I found out two really neat books -

1. On Call: Procedures and Protocols. I checked it out in my library, liked what I saw, am planning to read this one and have already ordered it. Seems like a primer to answer the questions that someone can wake you up at 2 am with.

2. Washington Manual Intern's Survival Guide - havent yet ordered it, sounds cool though; any opinions from people who have read this?

I have this and it's great - something to grab when there's a situation and you don't want to kill anyone. It goes over what to say/ask when you get called on the phone, "elevator thoughts", differentials, labs to order, etc.

I've heard that there is a UCSF intern survival guide floating around that come in handy especially for a quick reference

Yes - I have been occasionally searching the net for this...cant seem to locate it..UCSF people, if its allowed, kindly post it here for us 😀

Btw if anyone has used the Washington guide, please chip in...I couldnt find one in the library...so I would like to know how it is before putting in additional money on another book I may not read..😉

The Wash guide is too big for practical use

Do you mean the Washington Manual or the Intern Survival Guide? I agree the manual is too bid...the guide looked big too, but then Harrisons is big, and yet worth reading 😉
