Hi everybody
This is my first time posting after browsing through this site for sometime. I know this question has been asked to death, but I am losing hope and need some real advice.

My gpa isn't that stellar, and I plan to take some classes over the summer that I have gotten C's in. I was just wondering does it look bad to repeat classes?

Officially, I'm not sure, but I repeated my Organic I course and the took the highest of the two, so it probably shows initiative.

I don't think it looks bad at all ... so long as you improve your grades. I retook four classes and had about 3-4 Cs on my transcript (3.6 GPA overall) and I got into Iowa this fall. I would recommend retaking the classes if you think you can pull an A in them.

Thanks. I was just wondering how Schools look upon someone who has taken a class more than once. Hopefully they will see a trend of improvment and see dedication. Does anybody also know of schools that may take the higher of the two grades ? Or do they just average them out in most schools.

It depends ... I know PharmCAS takes both grades into account when calculating your GPA (they don't average or take out any grade). You'd have to check with the schools that you are interested in -- I don't think very many take just the higher of the two. In any case, getting an A when you retake your class will be a very good thing. 🙂

Pharmcas and most schools take the average of both grades. But if you improve your grade significantly, they will notice in a good way. I failed ochem II my first time, and my interviewers commented positively on my huge improvement.

I dont think that's a problem as long as you can finish the rest of the prerequisites before next summer.

If it's 3 credits or above and you are fairly sure you can score an A I would do it if you have the time and money. 🙂

if you have the time for it and think you can do well in all the classes you take at the same time, i say yes. you really don't want to overload yourself and get B's the second time around, that doesn't look that great.

Yeah I was planning to take Genetics During Summer Session 2 and O-chem during Summer session 1. Those are the only classes that I have done poorly in and I just want to retake them before applying to Pharmacy School. I was also wondering would it look bad to do a Masters before going into Pharmacy school? I want to get an M.S degree before going to Pharmacy school not because it will look better, but just because I want to make sure Pharmacy is really what I want. I am only 20 , and was wondering if this would be wise because competition is obviously getting tuffer each year.
