Greetings!!! Everyone!
What programs are you applying to this summer??

Creighton University (Third Choice)!!!

Belmont University
Milligan College
Tennessee State University (Number one Choice)!! I love Nashville!
Alabama State University (Second Choice)!!!
Abilene Christian University!!

Please if anyone applied to Tennessee State University last cycle. Can anyone give any advice on the application process.

@Makingmoves2014 I'm interested as to why TSU is your first choice. I don't mean to be a downer, but it's sort of looked at as the lesser OT program in Tennessee because of its lack of funding and sub-par facility. Their faculty was wonderful, but it just didn't outweigh the negatives for me. I also had a weird experience with them during this application cycle because they weren't very professional in their admissions responses. On top of all that, they had a HUGE increase in applicants this year (weird), so everyone's chances were lower even though it's not a very competitive program in general. They had over 500 applicants this year, compared to around 250 last year. I don't want to be hateful what-so-ever; I just wanted to make sure you're prepared for it.

I feel like I don't have a chance anyways. I decided to apply to TSU because its considered a "safety net" school. Over 500 applicants! Maybe I should rethink OT school! I don't see myself doing anything else. I have a bachelors degree in health service management. I've applied to over 100 jobs and nothing. I don't know if its the location or what. I don't know. I thought about social work but their underpaid and overwork. I don't want to be a teacher at all. I might have to rethink this. This whole application process is stressful...

Don't let competitiveness get you off your groove. You got this!

I'm still finalizing my list, but it looks a lot like this:

East Carolina University
Virginia Commonwealth University
Ohio State University
University of Pittsburgh
Chatham University

Anyone have information on the application processes or the programs themselves?

Chatham's average GPA for last year's class was a 3.43 for overall, and a 3.38 for pre-req. But they are moving to OTCAS so expect those averages to expand. VCU and East Carolina are both super competitive, I think the ECU lady said that over 400 people apply for 30something spots. Their average GPA was like a 3.6

@Makingmoves2014 I'm definitely not trying to dissuade you from applying to OT school. Don't let the application process scare. I just don't personally think TSU is considered a safety net school like it used to be. It was my safety net this year and it's the only school I got wait listed for. You most definitely should still apply though. Maybe you're more of the type of applicant they're looking for; you never know. Try looking specifically for schools that aren't on otcas. They typically don't have as big of an applicant pool because people don't want to put in the effort to do a separate application. You've got this- trust yourself.

Well I'm not the tradition student! I was thinking about UTMB but I heard they receive a lot of applicants too. Texas schools are hard to get into and most of the schools in Texas don't use otcas. I don't know what else to do. I realized that a lot of schools that didn't use otcas last cycle is going to use otcas for this cycle. I don't know what schools are consider safety net now. I don't have a 3.5 grade point average.
