Hi everyone!
I am currently in junior majoring in communication sciences and disorders. I have 2 more semesters. I love studying speech therapy and helping people progress. I'm considering applying to occupational therapy and speech therapy grad programs.
I have a 3.1 gpa, will be taking gre this summer, i have tons of hours of observation hours and shadowing hours, I am also in two extracurriculars relating to my major.
I do have majority of the pre-reqs because I used to be a nursing major before SLP. Do you think OT programs would look at me? And do you think it looks bad that Im going to be applying to OT programs?
I know my gpa is low, bare with me. :/

Hey there! I'm so glad you've found your passion! Your post sounds like you're leaning towards speech therapy as a first choice, is this correct? Both professions are amazing, but grad schools do *not* like seeing their students wavering. You're an investment! They want their graduate success rate to be as close to 100% as possible. If they see even a tiny glimmer of uncertainty, they'll look at it as a liability you'll quit halfway through. That being said, I do understand being in love with both professions; apply to all the schools you like, but do not broadcast that to the schools. Also, with your GPA being so low, you will be forced to prove you would do anything for OT, that you're really dedicated. I say this from experience, I had a 3.1 with the last 60 at 3.4. Also, applying to OT is expensive, ask yourself, "is this really what I want?". I didn't get in the first time around, but was told I was the top choice the second time and got in. So, if speech is where your heart is, stick with it and don't settle or come up with a plan b you'll regret because you weren't patient. You deserve to love your job and be happy - go for whatever your gut tells you! Message me if you ever need to talk, good luck!!!
