help! advice needed on negotiation

So..I received a job offer letter via email 2 days ago with a range mentioned typically offered by the organization for that role and offering me 5k less than the max.
I sent a counter offer requesting somewhere between max to max+5k on the same night. I have not heard back and it has been more than 30 hours since my email. What should i do? Can they outright reject me..im really worried...should i call them asap tomorrow? and if so what should i say? im just feeling worried that i have not heard back at all so any guidance on what steps i should take will help. thanks
