Ahh...im a freshman, right out of high school pursuing a pharmacy career. This past fall was my first semester of college which was at a community college. I slacked off a bit took a psych class got an "A". Took General Biology I and got a "B". Statistics got a "B" but the main problem is chemistry 101 or 1a i got a "D"! i kno it sounds really bad i dont kno what to do. Are there any alternatives in not being behind in my chem courses for the prereq's? Is it almost impossible to get into a pharmacy school with these type of grades? Again its only 1 sem and theres a lot of room for improvement, but my only concern is Chemistry, being the basis of pharmacy. I took AP chem in high school didnt pass the ap exam, took it this past fall and got a "D" but it was a challenging class with challenging instructor being the most dropped class at Moorpark College. Im a bit lost, should i give up on a Pharmacy career? Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thank you

you'll definitely want to retake chem 101 because most (maybe all?) pharmacy schools require at least a "C" in pre-req classes.

Like the other friend said, you have no choice but to retake the gen chem. You might want to take it with another instructor or at another school where you have some room to breath if your past one was too suffocating. Also, if you know friends taking the class before, try talking to them for advices on the instructor's teaching style, test, grading,... YOu could try the www.pickaprof.com website, as a reference, where statistics infos on professors' grades and students' comments on professors are posted. I have friends, and myself, going through the freshman year of college trying to adapt and struggle... so it's totally understandable for your situation. Please don't freak out, like you said, it's just the first semester and you have the entire 2-3 years ahead to make up for it. Yes, gen chem is a Must for pharm school, but it's not the only one regarding chem. You still have chances to shine with organic chem and maybe biochem for those schools that require this class. If you need counseling on how to adapt to college life, try your school resources. Sometimes, people having problems in their freshman year balancing between extracurricular activities and academic efforts. If you fall into this group, just make sure that you give priority to your academic work as health-care fields, now, are very competitive and a number of professional schools, unfortunately, judge people primarily on their academic work. So... relax and be confident, you are still in the game my friend 🙂
