Hi all,

Was going to start looking at secondaries, since I plan on applying this year and wanted to make a list of schools I have a shot at. I live in California and went to UCs for my undergrad and post-bacc. I am white. Here are my stats:

MCAT: 509 (128/125/129/127)

cGPA: 3.4
sGPA: 3.21

GPA By Year:
First: 3.30
Second:3.8
Third: 3.05
Fourth: 2.46
1 Year Full-time DIY Post-Bacc: 4.0

I took a few years off before I began my post-bacc. I am worried that my downward trend in my third and fourth year is gonna be really bad for me even though I did a one year DIY post-bacc.

ECs:
350 hours of clinical volunteering
120 hours of shadowing
No research experience
Very little non-clinical volunteering
I will have a DO LoR

Could you guys please help me with a school list? And are all MD schools out of range, especially since I am from California? I plan to apply broadly.

Thank you!

You might have a shot at some low tier MD schools that reward reinvention. Being from Cali hurts there as your state MDs are competitive.

I'd do much more DO than MD with that. Most of the established DO schools have averages above your GPA and MCAT. Being from Cali doesn't help but apply everywhere you can realistically see yourself attending and see what happens...I just wouldn't cross my fingers for Cali

So I can just apply to any DO school then? Would even the most established schools still be within my range?

The only this going on here is your downward trend in GPA. That's going to look fishy, but I'd say you have a shot at many DO schools. It honestly depends on what you want to do and what environment you want to be in. Your MCAT is above average so that should give you some love at many schools.

Id apply to a lot of DO schools, not really sure if MD schools will take you with that undergraduate GPA unless you are a URM unfortunately 🙁

The one year 4.0 post bacc helps at the schools who reward that

There are some DO schools that pre-screen GPAs, e.g. KCU-COM pre-screens at c/sGPA of 3.25.

A lot of people get past that screen if they have a strong MCAT, which OP does for DO schools.

OP, definitely apply to the top tier DOs and throw in some lower tier ones. Avoid new schools.

I can['t recommend MD schools with that MCAT score.

Apply broadly to DO schools. Start list with Touro-CA, Western, BCOM, PacNW, TUNCOM and AZCOM.
