Hi folks,

After trudging through nearly 3 years of classes due to my own illness and family losses, I realize that I've learned nothing in these topics:

Microbio,
Anatomy,
Embryo,
Cell bio,
Immuno

I'm really freaking out here b/c I don't think reviewing is going to make a difference if I couldn't learn them properly in the 1st place....any tips please on what I should do?

Should I start with them first before I review path/pharm/physio (which I hope to be strong in?) First AId for Micro and those other topics? HY Anat and Neuroanat?

Any advice on the most common topics in Anat, which I'm really freaking out on especially??? Some say brachial plexus, others say arms and legs, what do you folks think?

thanks so much!!! God I hope I can just pass the test and pass this year....and just get out there on the wards where I hope I can finally shine,

thanks ~ 😳

When I was reviewing for Step 1, I realized I had never learned micro well either. I ended up getting the "Micro made ridiculously simple" book and read it cover to cover. Now granted, I had plenty of time and a clear deficit in this area over the others, but I found the book to be very helpful. I'm not too sure how to go about the other areas. Aside from the book I just mentioned, I studied for step 1 using "FA for step 1" and the "kaplan qbank". Worked for me. Hope that helps.

Personally, although I feel i learned micro somewhat the first time around, since it was essentially pure memorization, i've definetely forgotten just about all of it. My plan (because i really don't like the ridiculously simple book) is to go through FA's micro, and as i go through each topic, to correlate it with what's in the Lange Micro & Immuno book. This way I get a little context to the FA. As for the cell bio, besides what's in FA, people recommend reading the first 4-5 chapters of the High Yield Cell Bio book. Anatomy isn't big on the boards - just memorize what's in FA, and maybe go through BRS Anatomy, but just for the little clinical correlations at the end of each chapter. For embryo, really, just memorize what's in FA. For Immunology, like I said above, i'm planning on reading the immuno section of the lange microbiology and immunology book - it's only about 60-70 pages, and very, very well written.

Don't freak out, it will be fine - even if you had "learned" the material well the first time, you would have forgotten the majority of the details by now anyway. Just start early (as in now) and use as few sources as possible (or else you will definetely get overwhelmed). The suggestions I made above are pretty much the concensus on these topics, from what i've gathered by reading SDN way too much 😀.

Good luck, and don't worry - a lot of us are in the same boat as you!!

Q 🙂
