Hi, I will be junior this upcoming fall. I want to know what are my chances of being accepted to a DO or MD. What should I do to better my chances?

My overall science GPA is 3.0, and my cumalative GPA is 2.9, because I had a really bad first semester as a freshman due to me working full time, and health issues.

I haven't taken the MCAT yet, but I am currently preparing for it. What should I be shooting for with my GPA?

I am a chief scribe at ocshner hospital, and shadow multiple DO's and MD's. I'll have multiple letters of recommendations from both.

I am also in the biology club, and plan on getting my masters in health sciences.

I also plan on vounteering.

Thanks for your help!

I answered your question in the pre-DO forum

OP unless you score quite high on the MCAT, say 32+ and complete an SMP you probably have next to no chance at allopathic schools.

Presumably, you are a sophomore now with three semesters of grades earned so far. Figure out what your GPA could be after 4 or 5 years of college if you get straight As (or at least a 3.7+). You should be able to get at least a 3.5 by the time you graduate. The steep upward grade trend, a strong BCPM GPA with As in upper-level Bio and Biochem, and a better than usual MCAT score, say 32+, should give you a shot at MD schools without doing an expensive Special Masters Program.

For DO, you could take advantage of their grade replacement policy by retaking any really low grades from your challenged freshman year.
