I need help finding the type of postbacc pre-med program that would consider me. From what I see there are two types of programs; 1) I took the prereq science courses but had a low gpa or 2) career changer where I didn't take any science courses and had a descent gpa. For my situation I am completely in between. I received a 3.1 GPA in college with a psychology degree. At my school, Virginia Tech, psychology was in the college of science so I took a little under half of the required science courses for med school. I started a master's program in clinical neuropsychology thinking that was what I wanted to do and realized I liked the biological aspect much more; so I left my master's program making my path look even more all over the place and unorthodox. That leaves me stuck at what type of programs I can get into. My GPA isn't great but I also didn't take all of the required science courses for med school or the MCAT. Please help me find which type of programs I would be considered for because I am having a very hard time. I am serious about med school and need to figure out what course I will have to take to get me there. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

A 3.1 GPA isn’t bad when looking at post-bacc programs. They usually have a cutoff of a 3.0. The kind of programs you’re looking for are going to have you take the prerequisites to be eligible to apply to medical schools and prepare you for the MCAT. I’d look at Temple BCMS or their CST BCHS program. It comes with a conditional acceptance to their LKSOM but it’s tough to get into. I’d maybe just look around your area and find a university where you could just enroll part-time, take the prerequisites courses, and prepare for the MCAT like a banshee. You don’t need a formal post-bacc, you could do a DIY post-bacc, which is what I described above. Then focus on other areas of your app: volunteering, club leadership, research, shadowing, clinical exposure. But this is just my 2¢.
