Hi,

I'm having some trouble finding contacts for an attending job in DC. I'm a fourth year resident, one of the chief residents actually. I live in the midwest, so I don't know many people in DC. Would someone either help me find contacts or recommend how I can find jobs in DC?

Thanks....

If you're interested in academia, then your first step is to write a letter expressing interest in a job to the chairs at Georgetown and GW. Nothing too fancy, something along the lines of :

Dear Dr. X,

I am currently chief resident at Midwest Residency Program, and am writing re: the availability of any opportunities at your institution after I complete my training this coming June.

My primary clinical interests are X,Y, and Z. I have additional research interests in Q, R, and S. These interests notwithstanding, I feel that my training has prepared me well for A, B, and C.

Drs. Freud, Jung, and Ferenczi here at Midwest Residency Program have offered to serve as references for me, and have noted that they would be happy to discuss my qualifications with you either my telephone or e-mail. They can be contacted at... . Please feel free to contact me with any questions,

Sincerely,

Quixote

Alternatively, if you're looking outside of academia, call a headhunter.
