Hello All-

I have just discovered this site and I had a few questions. I am applying this May and want to know where I stand. I'm a geography major with an option in urban and regional development and an environmental studies minor. My stats are 3.92 GPA, 3.89 Sci and I haven't taken the DAT yet, but will be taking Kaplan in the spring. I plan on applying to Tufts, BU, UPenn, Harvard, Columbia, and UConn. I was wondering if you had opinions on these schools. I am also certain I want to specialize (if of course I perform well in dental school). I am from Maine but go to undergrad in PA. Also, from what I've read on here, I know that the most important thing is to apply early, but does anyone know the date the application is put online? Any information would be greatly appreciated! Especially in relating my major to dentistry...Thanks 🙂

Welcome to SDN! You're gpa is very solid and it seems that you are on the right track, and yes, applying early is a tremendous advantage. If you do well on the DAT then you are golden. Don't worry about your major: it doesn't matter and there are actually many people that enter the field from non-biology backgrounds so you'll fit right in. The application becomes available sometime mid-May. The date changes a bit every year and it depends on how well AADSAS has their act together. In regards to the schools on your list, all are great and will turn you into a dentist. In regards to specializing, some of those schools have a higher percentage of students that go onto to specialize than others (for whatever reasons). It's a bit early to be worrying about that now - wait until you visit each of them on interviews and decide which one fits you best. Best of luck! 👍

I agree with every word Sprgrover said. Print out his comment and stick with it. It will help you a lot next year when applying.

Congratualtions on selecting such a wonderful profession. I have several friends at Tufts (they love it) and several friends at BU (some like it and some do not). I can not comment on the other schools but do a search for previous threads to obtain further insight. Good luck and this is an awesome website!

Sweet!! A geography major from a Big Ten school. I was a Cartography/GIS major from Wisconsin. I think you will be fine with your numbers. Just make sure you have solid LOR's, personal statement, etc.
You can use your understanding of spatial relationships, constantly taking information and shifting it between 2-D and 3-D, as a way to link geo to dentistry. I said that in a couple interviews and they seemed to buy it!!!
