hi guys ,i am an IMG and have just completed all my USMLE steps.my USMLE scores r step1-230/96,step2 -240/99 cs pass (2nd attempt) step 3 -220/89 and my graduation yr is 2009.all on 1st attempt except step 2 cs.i am a permanent resident in usa.now this yr i was only able to get 1 iv as i did not have my step3 ,no usce and also was requiring a visa.
now many thing have changed on my application-step 3 score ,no visa requirement(since my green card was approved) and externship in a university hospital in int med.
r there any chances of getting interviews in internal medicine with these credentials or should i broadened up my search for residency by also applying in family medicine ,psychiatry and pediatrics.
i am asking these questions as my financial conditions is not very good and i have a family to support .so i need to get into a residency program in 2012 match.
i would appreciate ur response
thank you

I see no reason why you wouldn't want to apply more broadly than just IM. What you get interviews in will dictate a lot.

Agree w/ L2D. While it sound like you certainly improved your app from last time – passed step 3, green card, USCE – you would be well advised to still consider applying broadly. It is much easier to turn down interviews earlier than to scramble for them later.
