Could someone please help me craft a school list? I'm applying this cycle (in the middle of doing transcript data entry...) and have certain schools in mind where I would love to go. But as to where I should be applying given my history I dunno.

For anyone who doesn't want to dig through my post history, basically:
  • Graduated in 2008 w/ a CompSci degree and a 2.67 cGPA.
  • Worked for a decade at Microsoft and Google for a decade combined
  • Enrolled at UC Berkeley Ext and took DIY postbacc classes for 3 years
    • 16 science lecture courses (prereqs + upper div electives)
    • 8 science labs (bio/chem/orgo/physics)
    • Postbacc GPA is 3.78
  • Including postbacc work, GPA now stands at
    • cGPA 2.998
    • sGPA 3.202
  • Took MCAT in January 2019. First and only attempt. Score of 507 (126/127/128/126)
  • Would prefer to stay in or near CA for personal reasons
  • Would be happy to attend an osteopathic medical school and would probably choose DO over MD if it let me stay in CA
  • Not willing to apply abroad or to the Caribbean
Help a fellow old premed out? Where should I be applying?

Thank!

You could receive interviews at some DO schools and I suggest these:
CHSU-COM (new school in Fresno)
ICOM
BCOM
UIWSOM
ACOM
ARCOM
NYIT-Arkansas
PCOM Georgia and South Georgia
ATSU-SOMA
TUNCOM
UP-KYCOM
MU-COM
WVSOM
VCOM (all 3 schools)
LECOM (all schools)
You could try the other 2 CA schools-Western and TUCOM-CA but they are more competitive.
For MD schools you could try Loma Linda, Kaiser and California University instate. You could try these OOS:
Vermont
Quinnipiac
New York Medical College
Seton Hall
Penn State
Drexel
Temple
Jefferson
George Washington
NOVA MD
Oakland Beaumont
Loyola
Rosalind Franklin
Creighton

This is one of those few times I disagree with the wise Faha. Your low MCAT is lethal, in my opinion, for MD schools as a reinventor, except UCD, UCI and UCR, IF you're from the Inland Empire.

Stick with the DO schools he listed, and add KCOM

Congrats on the comeback. I love reading stuff like this. Once you get in, don't forget to give back by posting your story to the low GPA comeback stories thread! Yours will be a cool one to read.

As for the school list, I usually suggest applicants use the WARS TOOL but not sure how helpful that will be to you as you are gunning for Cali and the UCs are probably out for you. As far as MD schools go, I would say it may be worthwhile to try at Loyola assuming you have shown some interest in serving the disadvantaged, and Wayne State. Both low yield and far from CA but extremely receptive, in my experience, to non-trads. I'm not as familiar with the DO schools in or near Cali so not much help there.

Great work on your gpa redemption journey! Wishing you the best this cycle!
