I am very late .. but still really want to go to dental school.

I am junior and a social science major... I won't be able to start o-chem until senior year... I searched for research no one wants me because I did not take enough physics chem classes . I currently have 3.5 science GPA and 3.65 cumulative. I also have two W's on my transcript. I did not know it is big deal at that time... I take like average 15 hours through college.

How should I improve my chance and when exactly should I apply? Should I increase the course load or the course load is fine?

Any suggestion help ?

I would suggest taking a moderately challenging course load that you can still do well in. Schools look at the difficulty of your course load. Also, shadow some dentists. Make sure you have solid extra curriculars. Take all of your pre-reqs and study a lot for the DAT. If you have to take an extra year, it probably isn't the end of the world. Many people to post-baccalaureate programs, which take 2 years after they graduate with a liberal arts degree. So taking 1 extra year isn't too bad. Also, don't take the interviews lightly, they can seriously make or break your application, and apply to a lot of schools and do a lot of research about those schools and the kind of students they accept. Applying to a lot of schools is not a waste of money, sometimes acceptances can be very random and unpredictable so it's best to have a lot of chances for acceptance.

You might want to lurk these forums for a while to get a rough idea of timelines.

You want to take Organic Chemistry before you take the DAT. You need to take the DAT before September.

You might have to wait an extra year if you aren't prepared for the DAT. It's not a light endeavor.

Go ask the health advising office at your school, they can help way more than these forums.

Edit: I re-read your post and realized you are a social science major. I am an anthropology major. I spent an extra year in school collecting the pre-reqs. Take all the pre-reqs before the DAT. Also, take your pre-reqs seriously, we have way less science classes to prove ourselves than Joe Shmoe biology major and it is imperative that you ace them. If you have any specific questions after you have done your research feel free to PM me.

You're GPA is solid, you need to step up your dental resume builders like shadowing dentists and you need to take ochem and the DAT. You're not too late. I applied right after my senior year and now I have dental school options.

Actually, as a long time lurker, I've learned more from SDN then I ever did from my health advising office. They were more into medical school admissions 🙄

Is 15 credit hours per quarter considerred ok? what extra curricular should be the priority.

Not my personal experience. Each school is different I imagine.

But, everyone knows SDN is loaded with exaggerations, myths and rumors.

For example, I took my DAT in September. Many people on this forum believed I would NEVER get any pre-dec interviews. I had three.

Granted, SDN is a valuable resource. That is why I am here after all.

Regardless, I think the OP should investigate his health advising office.
