I am scheduled to take the DAT on June 5 for the FIRST time. I don't know if I am ready, nor I know if I will ever feel ready. I have been studying for 1 month 6 days/week, but I have a few questions:

1. If I don't do well, is September (90 days) too late to retake it, or should I just reschedule my first test for July?

2. If I submit the scores for the fist test on June 5, how do I submit the scores for a 2nd DAT? Does application allow me to go back and enter the scores for the 2nd test?

3. Can I submit an application in June without DAT scores?

1. I think September is kind of late. Most people take it in August, the latest. Some do September if they have amazing stats.

2. Yes you can change them later. You can mark that you are re-taking.

3. Yes. Lots of people do this. I am going to submit the 3rd but won't take my DAT until late June. It takes them 4-6 weeks to process your application. So that won't be done until early July. So if you take you DAT end of June/early July maybe they will both arrive at the same time to schools.

If you are not ready, reschedule. How are you doing on practice exams? Topscore, achiever, etc?

Not feeling ready is common state of mind....however rescheduling is a good alternative but that would depend on how you are doing in your practice exams...

1) september retake would late IMO. I think your getting a little nervous about the exam, I say stay strong and don't reschedule, you've been working hard for the past month, go be brave attack this test

3) You can submit without DAT, but it will NOT be sent out to schools until your DAT scores are in.

I think that is a poor state of mind to have for this test. Yes, you are able to take the test an additional 2 times, as allowed by ADA, but you shouldn't really think that way. If you feel you're not ready for the test then reschedule and take it when you are ready.

You shouldn't go into it "oh, I still have more chances to do better if I screw up this time." You have the mentality that you only have one shot to do well on this test. Thus take it when you feel that you're up to it.

Saying all that, it's only natural to have doubts and question yourself, we all have its cool. Just go into the test confident and you'll be fine.👍 Good luck!

Hi
I have noticed that the years are not mentioned and i would really like to know this... What year(sophmore, junior, or senior) are DAT's usually taken?

I was just wondering and didnt want to start a new thread on a simple question.

Thanks

Usually taken 1 year or more prior to when you're expecting to matriculate to dental school. For example, people applying to enter Fall 2011 are taking their DAT around this time or before so they can apply this summer. So basically, the summer between their Junior and Senior year.

I went ahead and rescheduled (giving myself another month to study). I'm doing ~18-19 on Topscore after studying, but I really want to shoot for 21+ since I hear the real thing tends to be a little easier.

I bought achiever today for some extra practice, too.

Thanks for all the feedback, greatly appreciated 🙂.
