Help SDN, I'm getting worse by the hour (runny nose, no coughs yet)

I was wondering if anyone could recommend me any medicines and instructions as to how I should take it.
I'm seldom ever sick, and never take any medicines when I have a cold so I don't really have any idea how long it takes for a cold medicine to take effect...

also, should I let the interviewer know that I have a cold at the beginning of the interview??

pseudophedrine! and the good kind that you can only buy one pack of a day. It always helps keep me alert instead of groggy when I have a cold. Also, just tell your interviewers you have a cold and they might cut you a little slack, or at least avoid shaking your hand.

Whatever you do, DO NOT take any kind of medicine that you haven't taken before. Cold medicines can be pretty strong, and unless you know how you'll react to it you'd be better off just going into the interview with the sniffles. Dayquil, Tylenol Cold, etc. all tend to make me super loopy.

Otherwise, stay hydrated (no one will fault you for bringing a glass/bottle of water into the interview) blow your nose immediately before your actual interview, and carry lots of tissues.

You can let your interviewer know that you have a cold if you feel like it will affect your performance during the interview. Something like "Sorry my voice is a bit hoarse this morning, I have a slight cold" is probably OK.

I was pretty sick at one of my interviews. It sucks but there's not a whole lot you can do other than power through it and try to get some sleep the night before.

I don't know what was worse: being sick/exhausted at the interview or making the 5+ hour drive home after the interview while feeling sick/more exhausted.

I don't think we can give you medical recommendations on here.

But whenever I'm sick and have something important, this is what I do.

Nyquil + Benadryl to sleep.
Dayquil every 6 hours to keep the majority of symptoms at bay
Nasal decongestant spray just for night before and day of important event. If you use it for more than a couple of days you will get rebound congestion.
Vaseline in and around nose to prevent unsightly dryness and possible bloody nose (I used to get them a lot when I was a kid)
Throat spray if my throat hurts to the point its affecting my voice.

This isn't something I would do frequently, but if I need to appear normal and well for one important event I will.

But as someone else said, make sure they aren't new meds for you because you never know how you will respond.

Thanks everyone!

honestly, the only thing I need is something to stop my runny nose. I don't feel terribly sick, my throat feels fine, and no cough has yet arisen. But it's this darn runny nose that won't quit!!

=(

Yup nasal spray with epi. Can only use it for a day or two but will stop even the runniest of noses.

You'll be just fine. I had a bad cold when I took the MCAT. That wasn't too fun.

Asking for medical advise on a pre-med forum is never a good idea. Don't get me wrong, you'll always get responses, but do you really want to follow that pre-medical medical advice?

With that said, a getting as much rest and sleeping as early as possible is always a good idea.

If you have mucous, Sinus Rinse kit and Afrin.

chug water (srs) drink like 1-2 gallons today (obviously not morning of), Emergen-C, and take a multi

i'm kinda surprised this hasn't been closed yet.

Probably because it's something that is actual relevant to most people on these forums, and how to "treat" a runny nose is hardly medical advice...
