Help in optimizing electives for EM

Well, i'm only a 3rd year as well but I have done some research on these things so I'll give you my opinion based on what I've found so far....

#1: Yes. Do it if you can.
#2: Do it at a residency program so you can get a SLOR out of it but don't do it at one of your top choices due to the fact that you are a 3rd year and it will be your first. It is unlikely that a big east coast allo program will take you as a 3rd year anyway though.
#3: As long as your step II turns out same or better than step II I think you will be fine on the acgme side if you want to skip the DO but just make sure you apply really broadly including a variety of geographical regions. Goal should be to get 10-12 interviews. Apply to as many programs as you can afford. You should be looking at at least 50+.
#4: I think ACGME program is reasonable given your numbers but you might not get that big name east coast program of your dreams. Hopefully you can accept that.
