Help! Interesting applicant. 26 MCAT 3.55cGPA

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
That 5 in VR is going to kill you. (you getting a 3 the first time doesn't help much either)
You probably need an additional gap year to get all your ducks in a row.
You absolutely need clinical experience and I don't see that you have any? More shadowing might be necessary too. (A DO, a DO letter is necessary for many DO schools).

So, retake your MCAT and take on more meaningful ECs (clinical in particular).
Definitely apply next year.

I thought the DO application service would actually pair you up with a DO, you just have to request it - maybe people in the osteo forum can help with this?
Also consider SMP programs. A friend did a 1 year post bacc at LMU-DCOM. If you do well enough in the program, it gives you an IV for it's med school. If I remember correctly, it's a small program (~20 people?) and just about everyone who met the requirements got accepted into its med school.

are you referring to this? I found my DO shadowing experience through this website.

You can volunteer in a hospital, hospice, nursing home, free clinic, etc.
Lots of opportunities to get clinical experience without employment. Basically, you have to be around patients to learn if you want to be around them for the next 30-40 years.

I think taking the MCAT a 3rd time is less meaningful than that 5 in VR. It's incredibly low and a lot of schools has cutoffs for minimum scores. You may want to research that.

Are you from outside the Chicagoland area? If so, you have a fair to good shot at SIU. Especially if you have interest in staying and practicing medicine in non-Chicago areas. I believe UofI also has a rural medicine program that is easier, not easy but easier, to get into.
