Guys I need big help with this one.

Ive been trying to work as an undergrad in a research lab at my school for about 2.5 years now. I have gotten interviews with a bunch of professors but somehow I never make the cut.

After a year gap, a professor finally agreed to meet with me to talk about my interests for volunteering.

Can I get some tips about what to say so I can maximize my chances of getting in? I do have a genuine interest in research but I think it's what I say and my failure and confidence at public speaking that gets me rejected back to back.

Be enthusiastic but not annoying. Read up on the PI's research interests and past papers. Show him how it matches with your interests b/c of XYZ (classes, future career goals, etc.). Highlight your experiences and stress that you're a fast learner. Know the "theory" behind the lab techniques, especially if you don't know how to do it (e.g. know how PCR works if it's a genetics lab).
