Hi guys I am currently in the process of applying to medical but I was wondering if someone could give me some advice as to what schools to look towards. A small explanation of my profile I'm from NY just graduated this past week from a school in MA. My overall GPA is a 3.3 science one is a 3.0 mainly because during my sophomore year I had a few important people in my life pass away and it hurt my performance but after that my grades have gone up every semester since and I know every person has hardships and I've proven that I've learned from my past experiences because this past year I learned I was going to be a father and so i worked 30+ hours a week went to school and got a 4.0. I've done numerous ECs such as 3 years of research, volunteering as a patient care liaison, did track and field for a season, play with the soccer club and was part of groups such as Black student association and Latin student association. I plan to take my MCATs this coming July I would really appreciate some guidance and advice. Ive gotten split answers from people some say I wont make it others say I could, I know I could and will some way somehow, but because I am a first generation graduate from a poor background with a very small network connection with professionals in the medical field I hope someone could orient me and give me some advice. Thanks a lot guys.

So you won't have your MCAT until August? That might be a problem, especially with your low cGPA and very low SGPA. And what if you don't do well on the MCAT? Have you thought about DO school? Do you have a list of schools you are considering? It is impossible to advise you without a MCAT but with your GPAs success is questionable! Have you thought about putting off applying for a year or two
and working on some grade repair? You really only want to apply one time with the best possible application possible. IMO you don't have a good application. Your ECs are weak. You seem to have no shadowing, no community service etc.. Take your time and get yourself together so when you apply you are successful.

Kinda on the same boat and would love to get some advice. Current undergrad cGPA = 3.43 with a sGPA of ~3.3 depending on how AMCAS calculates it. Currently doing an MPH at Columbia with a GPA of 3.78. I know I can write a good personal statement and have 6 superb LORs. Any advice on how I should be applying? My MCAT is a 512.

You will get better advice if you start your own thread. MPH won't help much and a lot will depend on the MCAT.
