Hey guys,

Could you explain why the answer is D in Question #8 Practice Test #3?

I thought there is something wrong because they all share the same range,,, or there is something that I do not know!!

Post the question bruh.

eta. just checked it myself lol.. Is it the Standard Deviation problem?

I already closed my book and am not going to quote the problems but the answer is D because it is the only one that could have a different SD than the others.. All others are like 2 point a part from each other while D has a repeat in numbers which messes up the mean and will change in the SD

like.. for example

(1,3,5,7,9)
(21,23,25,27,29)
(54,56,58,60,62)

All of these are 2 points a part for each number and when it is set like this you are given the mean/median but when given one like this..

(1,3,5,5,7)

it changes up the whole mean and effects the SD. You dont have to do any actual math on problems like these just look at the numbers and pick the one that is different then all others

I'm assuming you're talking about the standard deviation question...

The reason why the answer is D is because, while they all have the same range, answer choice D is the only one where you have a repeat of an integer. All the other answer choices are consecutive integers. Therefore answer choice D will have the largest standard deviation.

(they don't expect you to calculate the standard deviation of each answer, you just have to understand the concept behind the standard deviation and how the numbers in each set affect the outcome)

Hope that helps!
