i havent got a single interview yet and i was wondering what the reasons might be? here is my situation: i took my DATs the second time and i got AA:22 and TS:23 in july, my AADSAS GPA overall is 3.08, BCP:3.1 SCI:3.0, (but for the last there semester ive had 3.9gpa and above), and ive completed 170 units. i applied around august and my whole application was complete by october(i know thats late), ive done enough shadowing but no volunteer and no extracurricular activities! i havent got rejected from all of my schools yet but im not sure if i stand a chance for this year! what you guys think out there? any insights will be appreciated.

I remember from every one of my interviews, they were all very interested in what my extra curriculars were both relating to and outside of dentistry. One interviewer liked the fact that I enjoy operas which was brought up by him after seeing my course on intro to opera. Another specifically asked me what I have done outside of school that I think will help me as a dentist, and he seemed more than content when I mentioned that I play the piano.

I think its not so much that you don't have extra curriculars. I think you just need a bit of luck and try to find a way to relate whatever it is you do to dentistry. Also, awsome dats, but pretty low gpa. If you got a 3.9 the last three semesters I assume you had a straight 2.6 for the first 5. Thats pretty low and if you really want to boost your chances, some postbacc maybe?

I would think it's a combination of the late submission and possibly the low GPA.

Agreed. Maybe try applying this next cycle, on the FIRST day, and start looking into postbacc work. EC's will also help seperate you from the pack (I don't know what they are, but this might hurt). I would say that by applying on the first day you will most likely get an interview or two. Best of luck to you!!
