Hey guys its optosurf11

And it so have it that I ve been accepted..... SUPER YAY! but now i face a conundrum to which school i should attend. So far ive been accepted in pco, nova, and ohio. I would like to go to ohio but because i am canadian i would have to pay the out of state tuition for all year long and itll be super expensive. So now im focusing on nova or pco. If you guys have some advice that could help me make my decision that will be really appreciated. I have put a deposit on Salus (PCO) already..

mANY thanks

i don't know too much about Nova but I know a grad from PCO who loved it. He really enjoyed his classmates and said the teachers were great.

Dude, the high tuition at OSU is only for the first year. After that you establish residency and it goes down to 20K a year for the next three years. In total over the four years it is actually a great deal!! You can PM me if you have questions or go to the source directly and talk to Paul Todd at Student Affairs.

Oops, or is it different for Canadians as opposed to US citizens from out-of-state??? I'm not sure.......if you are not sure either then find out before you make a final decision.

What where your stats when you applied? Oat and gpa?

ill tell you if you can give me good reasons to choose between nova or pco lol.... my gpa was around 3.3 and my oat marks were around 360

But seriously pco? nova?

I didn't apply or visit NOVA, but PCO had a community college feel to it which I did not like.

You know you'll be paying a higher tuition-rate at P.C.O., right? Doing the math, at the end of four years, O.S.U. will (in terms of tuition/fees, only) have cost you $7,115.00 more than will have P.C.O. I'm not suggesting this is a small amount (and, of course, it'll be a lot larger when you throw on the interest), but is it enough to keep from from the college you'd rather attend?

It's actually ~$30,000.00/year during years three and four.

I dont really know where you are getting ur stats but its more than that... i dont have the list with me right now but i remember the tuition for years 3 and 4 being a lot higher... after calculation it came up to around 100,000 difference in those 4 years of school. which again when added interest is really daunting and this was done after i met with financial advisor for both schools. Ill repost the stats when i get the chance. Pco does have a small school feel, and NSU is rather large, but pco is pretty well known academically so i heard on this forum.... but i feel like im leaning towards nova just cause of the closeness i feel with the profs.

$100,000.00 in difference — 😱? I don't know if that's because you're Canadian, but here's the source of my numbers: http://www.opted.org/files/Financial_Aid(1).pdf (go to page #7):

O.S.U.:
$51,525 (first year, non-resident) + $22,470 (second year — non-resident tuition applies only to one's first year) + $29,960 (third year) + $29,960 (fourth year) = $133,915.

P.C.O.:
$31,700 each year, times four years = $126,800.

Difference:
$133,915-$126,800=$7,115.

Even if you ran with the $51,525 figure for each of the four years at O.S.U., your difference would come to (an admittedly much more staggering) $79,300, not to ~$100,000.

Also, I don't know how P.C.O. struck you as feeling "small": its class-size is upward of 160; O.S.U.'s is 65 and N.O.V.A.'s is 94 (http://www.opted.org/files/Enrollment(1).pdf: first page).

Finally, I'm confused to how N.S.U. has come into this conversation, at all; you've not, until now, mentioned anything about it..

Some people refer to Nova as NSU.............thereby confusing it with the other NSU 🙂

Looking at the cost of living is probably the most important assessment you need to make before attending a school, as virtually all schools have the same tuition if you are a non-resident.

For example, the cost of living in NY City is very high compared to Portland.

ya obviously there is some miscommunication. First is yes there is a 100,000 difference because i AM canadian. I can not apply for non state resident... cause i cant apply for permanent residency in states unless im married to american or from an employment (probably from a long duration). Also Just as the tuition is increased from third and fourth year... so is the foreign tuition so you have to tack on an extra 10k or so. Ill put all the figures when i find the figures which are not with me.

And yes as someone mentioned Nova Southeastern University is considered NSU. I can fully understand the confusion and thanks for pointing it out so i can let people properly assess my situation.

The smallish feel is not from the class size but from the building complexes and campus. As of right now, I really hope I can piece together all the right pros and cons before making the decision

Speaking from experience, I'd say to go to the school that you think you'd enjoy spending the next 4 years of your life. Yes, money is an issue, but in the end you're still going to have loans.

You'll get pretty much the same education anywhere you go, so choose somewhere that you feel comfortable and that you like.

Nova is located near fort lauderdale and not far from miami, beautiful places to be with great weather. If in your spare time you can see yourself either swimming in the pool or the ocean or playing tennis then nova sounds great.

I'd go PCO or Ohio St.
