Hello SDN users!

I need your help for eliminating some of the schools that I have written down (sorted out) so far.
I am Canadian citizen (international student).
My GPA is around 3.5
My DAT (first try 20AA, 20TS): planning to retake on June 1st.
I am aiming to get at least 23 AA/TS in my DAT on the second try.

In this case, which school should I get rid of from this list practically?

Midwestern University (Illinois)
Midwestern University (Arizona)
Roseman
University of California San Francisco
Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine
University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine
University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine
Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC
Western University of Health Sciences
University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine
Nova Southeastern University
University of Louisville School of Dentistry
University of Maryland School of Dentistry
Boston University
Harvard University
University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry
University of Nevada
Columbia University
NYU
University of Buffalo
Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine
University of New England
University of Minnesota
University of the Pacific
University of Alabama
University of Kentucky
University of Michigan
Indiana University DDS
University of Nebraska

Nope. No need to retake your DAT. Unless you didn't take it seriously the first time, you will probably not improve your scores enough to make it worth your while or $$$. That said, your DAT score is a bit on the low side for the Ivies. But, you definitely have a shot at the majority of the rest of those schools you listed.

I need to retake the DAT cause I am international student.. (I heard that international student should have higher stats to be competitive enough..)
Thanks for your feedback though!
Do you think that I should exclude all the ivy schools from this list then? (After the retake)
Any suggestion is welcomed🙂

your scores are good. If you do a retake you have to be 100% sure you will get higher, otherwise you just wasted all the effort getting 20AA on the first try. I would CALL the schools and ask before you do the retake.

I already called in schools but they told me that it is my choice to retake or not..

Add: Tufts

Remove UConn: huge preference for new england/ct residents.
Remove SUNY Buffalo/Stony Brook: OOS-Unfriendly.
Remove University of Alabama: OOS-Unfriendly

Honestly, go to each of these school's websites and look at what percentage of the class is from out of state.

Not sure:
Kentucky
Minnesota
Michigan
Indiana
Nebraska

Thank you for the advice!

Hahaha. That's not helpful at all
Yeah.. They always reply/answer back to me that there are so many other factors to consider in admission process other then the stats so they can't tell whether it is beneficial to re-take or not. (I think that is true too.. but since I am international student, I am assuming that I will need high DAT score to get over my weak GPA.)

That might be a fair assumption. Maybe @Applesandteeth can share some insight. She's also Canadian and will be attending an American dental school this fall.

Don't add Tufts as they do not accept Canadians anymore.
Don't remove Buffalo; they do accept Canadians

you forgot Roseman?

ub accepts Canadians I believe.

buy the adea book.

Does SUNY-Buffalo also accept Canadians as well? ( i know U of Buffalo does.)

Add LECOM in Florida and your DAT looks good.
Doesn't LECOM only accepts US citizen? (I call them a month ago saying they only accept US citizens.) But thanks for the feedback! 🙂

Hey! I'm in the same boat as you. If you're still confused about schools pm me sometime, I'm compiling a list from the ADEA guide that accepts are reasonable amount of CAD's

Oh really? I think i git confused with SUNY.
Thanks for letting me know🙁

SUNY is just state university of New York, indicating it as a state school. Buffalo is the actual school. Similar to how UNC is university at North Carolina indicating is as a state school of NC but Chapel hill is the specfic state school.
