I am desperate. I've been calling and going into pharmacies to ask if I can volunteer in their pharmacy. So far...I have one..but I can only go in for a total of 2 days. They said that I am not allowed to do anything in their pharmacy except study what the pharmacist is doing. I don't understand because I got an internship at Rite-Aid before and I stock shelves, help customers, etc. I only got that internship through a lottery system from school.

How did you get an internship...or volunteer at a pharmacy??🙁 🙁 🙁

Well, if you're not a pharmacy technician, clerk or a pharmacist, you will probably just get in the way in a busy pharmacy.

You could to go to hospitals and ask to see the Volunteer Coordinator...then ask that person you would like to be placed in the pharmacy ...

you might have better luck asking independant pharmacies, since they can establish their own criteria if they are willing to let you sit in or observe or get any experience. However, there are state laws that might prevent you from being able to do things while there and that's probably why you're only observing. If you get a pharm tech license, that could open some more doors, but to be honest, i'm still having trouble myself.
Be thankful you have that opportunity even for two days a week, don't get in their way, and take in all you can while you're there. You might be able to make phone calls, but that would be more on the retail side. Good luck.

Be thankful for those two days of observing because I can't even seem to get that. I have look for a job as a pharm tech on several occasions and even volunteer, but everyone is either too busy to talk to me or I am told to fill out an online app. and they will get back with me but they never do. I have been trying for over a year.

I live in California and for me, it was pretty hard to get a volunteer job or even a clerk job at a retail pharmacy. Like Zpack said, try the independent pharmacies, or go to the HOSPITALS. I currently volunteer at a hospital and it was sooo easy to get in. Go to VA, Kaiser, etc.! 😛

You've been trying for over a year?!?! i've been trying for about 6 months now and it's very hard to stay hopeful. I know how you feel though.

does your school have a pre-pharmacy society? Usually pharmacy chains contact the pre-pharmacy society to spread the word on new job openings for clerk positions. Many students at my school have gotten jobs this way so it's worth a shot.

hospital is a good place to try...don't think they will turn you away.
