I'm in a bit of a pickle. I applied to only two schools, UNT and University of St. Augustine, Austin (this was my fault, I was lazy and let deadlines get away from me).
Anyway, they have both contacted me for interviews on the exact same time/date--the morning of March 7th. I've asked at both schools and neither are willing or able to re-schedule. USA said that if March 7th doesn't work for me, then I'll have to get put on the "alternate" list, of the people they call if all of the seats aren't filled from the first round of interviews.
Well I can't be in two places at once, so I pretty much have to choose which school I want to have a shot at. USA is my favorite for one big reason: I love Austin. I did my undergrad there and have itched to go back since. My best friends are there. I'm a huge nature girl and there are so many parks and waterfronts and nature preserves there. Austin is a city after my own heart, and I would jump at the opportunity to live there for 2-3 years. It's a second home to me.
UNT though, is more established, with better facilities and great faculty. I've spent a lot of time on their shiny and polished campus. It felt like more of a real "school", whereas USA was basically just one rectangular building (I know they're new and expanding, but still). I think I have a better chance at UNT, since that's where I did my post-bacc research. UNT has all of the concrete, logical advantages: strongly motivated student body, friendly professors, student organizations, and a tuition bill about 1/4 of the cost of USA. The biggest thing making me shy away from UNT is the city... I'm just not crazy about Fort Worth, TX. There's about one interesting restaurant there. I know I'll be busy with my studies, but really, thinking about living in Ft. Worth doesn't put a spark in my step the way thinking about living in Austin does. How important is the city, anyway? I'm just reading all this stuff about how the school you attend doesn't matter as much for your career.
So my choice isn't really between these two schools, it's between two CHANCES that I have at these two schools. That makes it kind of worse, I think. Anyway, I guess the moral of the story is that you should apply to more than two programs!!!!
I'm just at a loss. Any advice or experience is greatly appreciated!
