Hey there,
I want to tell you all about my past and if I should try and apply for Pharmacy school for 2010 or 2011.
Freshman year of college (2004-2005), I attended Albany College of Pharmacy. Due to being so young and naive as well as being far away from home, I left and returned to the university close to my parent's house. I decided during undergrad that I wanted to pursue Speech Pathology, and graduated with a B.S. last spring. I applied for graduate school in Speech Pathology. I got accepted and have almost completed my second semester of the program. After attending clinicals, I hate the profession and do not want to do it. Being a therapist doesn't work with my personality.
After much thought and reflection, I have figured out that Pharmacy is the career that would best fit what I want in life. I am more science oriented (I perform way better on my Anatomy oriented courses than school age courses in the grad program) and am interested in how different medications interact with each other and affect each patient with his or her unique conditions.
So I now know what I want. Now here's my dilemma. I have not taken Biology and Chemistry since 2004-2005, so I would have a lot of prerequisites to take (pretty much everything except calculus, statistics and electives). I also am not sure how my application would look when it shows that I left Pharmacy school 5 years ago, and just left the masters program. I am right now working on transferring to a pharmacy at the grocery store I work at to gain experience.
After being in school for 5 years with numerous student loans, I feel pressed for time to get accepted into a program in for 2010 and finish school. But, I'm concerned that I will be pressed for time to complete prerequisites, take the PCAT and apply to school.
So really I just need some insight on the best thing to do, and If I even have a shot in getting into school despite me leaving Pharmacy school and if I leave the masters program and do post-bac coursework.
I graduated with an undergraduate GPA of 3.6 and had a 3.7 GPA my first semester of grad school. My GPA will be lower this semester due to receiving a low grade in clinicals.
Thanks!
