Hey guys,

I would really appreciate your help.

I want to take the practice NBME exams, but I had a few questions.

1. Where do I get them (is there a link)?

2. I've heard that the forms are different in levels of difficulty. Is there any truth to this, or does it just seem that one of the tests maybe have been hard in micro for example, and some ppl that took that test were bad at micro and scored poorly--and thus rumors were started. Also I heard the free one is really easy. What do you think?

3. If the above is true, what is the consensus of the different NBME tests are available---how many are there, which should I buy, which are hard, etc?

4. MOst importantly, are there answers floating around for the different forms so I could learn from the exams as well??? Please please post or PM if you can!

Thanks so much for the help. Getting nervous lol.

google nbme and you will get website to get the exam

yes there are different difficulty level imo

it almost seem like the order of difficult is nbme 1-2 are the easiest and 3-4 the hardest
there are 5 and 6 now, but i havent taken them so cant comment

and yes there are ans sheets out there, google hard and you may find them

2. i think that the bolded part is absolutely true. each NBME focuses on a different subset of subjects, and people have different weaknesses.

4. regarding the answers floating around, they are not 100% correct. i looked for the answers for NBME 3 that were posted by somebody who got 800/265+ and I found 3 mistakes. so use them but trust your judgement when you disagree with something.

Ok... I know that this is lame, but I can't find the NBME practice exams...

could someone please post a link to them???

are they called something different on the NBME website??

Thanks a lot!!!

Went to register today to start my first practice exam, and noticed something interesting... our school's name is listed as the one they used 50+ years ago. We've had like three name changes since then!

I think there's a reliable source out there for NBMEs 1-4 with answers.. seems like a waste of time and money to take so many NBMEs at $45/pop while we're still studying. Maybe it would be better to go through the NBME 1-4 questions out there and save the cash for NBME 5 and 6 towards the end??

The reliability of some of those answers is debatable. Arguably, what you're really getting out of the NBMEs is probably the most accurate reflection of where you stand. Personally, that's what I'm paying for. I've got plenty of questions to do on UWorld, but I've also planned 3 NBME's into my schedule just to track my progress. 5 & 6 have a lot less feedback at this point.

I'd say having NBME questions to look at is better than not having them - they're basically real USMLE questions. Suppose the answers are 99% accurate, that's good enough for me! The once in a bloom wrong answer isn't going to kill my score.

I'd do the questions timed and check back at the answers - without it costing me an arm and a leg to the NBMEs online and never get to review. I think the best way to crack the Step 1 is to figure out the tricks they place in the actual questions - by looking at lots and lots of real questions.

They aren't reliable at all. There may be one or two sections with reliable answers, but most of them ~25% of the answers are just plain wrong.

Umm, the NBME questions (and by analogy) USMLE questions aren't really all that difficult. The average test taker gets >70% right on the day of the exam spending 1 min per question and no references -- I think it would be very easy to look up answers to NBME questions and produce extremely accurate answer keys given a bit of time and some books.

Do you work for the NBME or something and insist we all dump our money into their coffers for nothing?? As someone once said on here, all those d*mn NBMEs are just a ca$h cow. Those questions could be much more useful if we had access to them - I think that's the reason they don't let us review anything.. it would basically give away all the secrets the testwriters put into the USMLE.

I havent taken any of the exams yet, but i dont get the big deal with the answers. dont they provide you wih the right answers?? or is it that you just get a raw score with no explanation?

Nope - you get no answers and no chance to look at the questions again. It's pretty much worthless except to see how you might do if you took the Step 1 that day. Waaay overpriced at $45/pop to get nothing out of it. Clearly, being able to look at the questions and answers would be infinitely more valuable - but it would be too risky for the NBME - it would give away too many of the secrets that are built into the actual test.

Cant you buy the exams in untimed mode, get a timer and time yourself (like real test conditions), then when your time is up...go back and review the questions using any resources you want (not changing your original timed answers though), and when youre done --submit the test to get your score? Seems like that would be an easy way to get the best of both worlds: an accurate evaluation of where you stand, and the ability to review the questions...right?

Bingo!

I tried googling nbme forms, but can't find anyhting!!!

any help would be great!!!

Hey guys,

I'm looking to just past pass this test, and would really really appreciate any answers for the NBME's that may be floating out there...

Could anyone please help me out? I would be ridiculously grateful. IF you could post or PM me...

Thanks,
Briana

Since these tests are copyrighted, it's not cool to discuss where to get illegal copies of them on SDN. Sorry.

I'm not looking for anything illegal. I'm looking for answers to to the questions that people have problably compiled over their studying period. IE I've already paid for the exams, just need the answers.

If this isn't ok I guess there's no use in arguing.

Guys, what I'm looking for is just the answers (even if they arent all that reliable) for the NBME. It's getting to be desperation time since I just want to pass...

Thanks,
Briana

I understand your need. It's just that discussing specifically where to download this stuff is a violation of the TOS.

Why is it illegal to ask for the answers to the exams? The answers are not copyrighted information. It's information generated by somone who decided to research the questions and come up with solutions. Is this not the case?
