Help on disadvantage section?

Yes, do it. Just tell your story briefly, explain how it’s made your path difficult and different than others but how grateful you are for it shaping who you are today. Something like that

Hello everyone,

I've read a few forums on here about this topic and I see a mixture of responses. I spoke with a few of my mentors and they mentioned that I should definitely apply as a disadvantage applicant. Nonetheless, I really don't want to make it seem like I am seeking for sympathy to get into a program and would like to obtain further advise on this. Essentially I was raised in a different country (poor community), came here as a child and went through discriminatory challenges due to my inability to speak English at the time and just being an immigrant in general. I guess this motivated me to work my butt off and I was able to excel academically while often times working full time during college. I graduated with a science-related degree and have academic achievements that my mentors say make me a competitive applicant with a compelling and different story from other applicants that they helped.

I guess what I'm trying to get advise on, is if I do apply as an disadvantage applicant how would I be able to compile these struggles in the disadvantage section without making it seem like I'm seeking for sympathy but rather explain that these experiences made me a hard-working and dedicated individual?

Thanks in advance.

100% use it. You're just telling your story. If you've struggled in life, had to overcome adversity, know what it's like to have to bust you a** for something then let the admission committees know.

Just be sure in your essay to correlate your experiences to how/why they make you a better candidate/future dentist
