Help on the application

hey guys i have a couple of questions.....

First, how important is the work experience section of the application? I have worked at some places but they are not related to dentistry or medicine; i have worked as a waiter and as a sales associate at best buy...so was wondering how much emphasis they put on this or is it just formalities?
Second, i do not have any dental shadowing experience...i am planning on getting some this summer but if i do that i will not be able to put it in my application that i have shadowed a dentist...i am really worried about this second question because i do not have any shadowing experience under a dentist...i do have lots in a hospital and under physicians though. I appreciate all help!! 🙂

Make sure you are honest about your work history, but those jobs are not going to attract much positive attention besides anecdotal interview conversation.

As for shadowing, this is very important. Do at least 50 hours. Every school will want to see it, so make it a priority. You can say that you are currently shodowing dentists, and you have shadowed for XX hours already. Then if you get invited to an interview you can inform them. In fact, give each school a call when you complete 50-60 hours and tell them to add that fact to your application (or write a letter to each school to put in your file).
