Hello everyone!
First time poster to the forum. I read here all the time and actually learn a lot from you guys and want to thank you very much for that. I am looking for some advice and any will help. I am currently a P2 student with what I think is pretty good grades for pharmacy school, but honestly do not have a ton of experience working in the field. I was hired by CVS last summer but unfortunately had to leave my job once the summer ended because it was at home and I go to school 2 hours away along with playing an NCAA sport (this is my last year). My guess is that I may of only worked about 200 hours, maybe even less. I hated it there (just like everyone else does) and am starting to think hospital pharmacy could be my passion because I am starting to love looking at patient's charts and making decisions. I am scheduled this summer to work in the hospital for a few weeks as part as my curriculum, and I am going to try to ask them if I could keep coming to work after that just so that I could keep learning the field more hands on than if my head was in a book.
I am hoping that my rotations in my last year will give me enough experience in case the hospital job does fall through, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't getting nervous. I am trying to study as hard as possible so my grades stay up, but I realize that without experience it will be tough for me to find a job. I am also trying to come home in summer and spend it with my family if possible. CVS also said they could hire me back this summer if there is a spot for me.
I guess I just needed somewhere to rant my problems but my question is if you were in my shoes what would you do? Everyone I talk to doesn't really know what to tell me (including my advisor) so I thought I'd ask you guys. Thank you very much for reading and any advice in advance!! 🙂

Now, I am not a pharmacy student yet but I do have some insight since I have been in this field for around 4 years. Firstly, from my conversations with recruiters from certain companies, they not only care bout grades(maybe not as much) but also people skills. you need to try to get your foot in the door with some company and need to stand out these days. I don't understand how playing a sport is going to aid you after school. Also, why instead of using time on a sport use it to intern somewhere(if that's applicable).

Thank you for your reply.. I wish I could focus more on it and not on my sport but it accounts for approx. a little more than half of my tuition and college isn't cheap these days lol

Whether you pursue hospital or retail ultimately is a choice that you will have to make. If you do decide to go the hospital route, count on doing a residency unless you make a very good impression at the institution that you are at for your APPE.
