Hello everyone:

I am hoping to accumulate a list of about 20-25 medical schools were I would have a good chance of getting in. I would appreciate any help and I thank anybody in advance for their contributions.

I applied this past year to a total of 15 Schools including all the Florida schools and I did not get an acceptance at a single Medical school (I am still waitlisted at Tufts but I do not think It will happen). I got a 28N on the MCAT and my overall GPA is 3.45 and my science GPA is 3.4. My EC's are clinically strong, I have extensive patient contact as well as a lot of medical business experience (I was a Claims agent for about 4 years), no research experience though. I got to the US when I was 10 (I am Hispanic, If any one is wondering) and speak Spanish and English fluently. I am planning to retake the august MCAT but I want advice based on the numbers provided here.

Thank you all

did you take a look back at your interviews? maybe you didn't qite sell yourself as a person they were looking for. not to say you aren't a great applicant, but just try a different approach in the interview area. according to many other applicants, there has been numerous acceptances with a 28 mcat. the lack of acceptances could be because of many other avenues not yet explored so don't be discouraged you can do it!!! keep your head up. 👍

That doesn't make much sense. You're hispanic with decent stats and you speak spanish fluently. You should have been golden. It must have been problems during your interviews. I recommend to apply again next year if you don't get in this year, and this time also apply to DO schools. Good luck.

First, I would definitely call the office of admissions for all schools that you submitted secondaries to; especially those you interviewed with. Someone should be able to tell you what specifically was a concern in your application; just don't despair when they give you the honest truth, this is valuable information coming from an admissions rep. Your numbers do sound good enough to get you in somewhere. I would also consider DO schools as mentioned above; if you've had strong clinical experience, you should have had fair exposure to them and their philosophy. Like I said, your MCAT's are good, definitely competitive for a DO school; FYI, I only applied to DO schools. I'm not an admissions rep, but, if I had your numbers; I would concentrate more on finishing up my applications to AMCAS/AACOMAS than retaking the MCAT; because timing is everything! and you want them processed and in the schools' admissions offices as early as possible. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.

Could you please post where you applied this year, and where you received interviews??? That would be helpful to know before I give you advice. Thanks!

Did you look into applying to the medical schools in Puerto Rico (they are NOT considered foreign medical schools and you still apply through AMCAS) and since your fluent in spanish, you shouldn't have a problem. The schools are:

Ponce School of Medicine
Post Office Box 7004
Ponce, PR 00732

Universidad Central del Caribe School of Medicine
Call Box 60-327
Bayamon, PR 00960-6032

University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine
Medical Sciences Campus
P.O. Box 365067
San Juan, PR 00936-5067

Are you open to DO? If so I can PM you the list...

Just out of curiosity..how many interviews did you get? Usually once you get to the interview point....they really like you..it might help narrow down where the issue is...

aside from the fact that med school admissions has NO rhyme or reason...
