I know most SDNers have had enough "what are my chances thread", but thought that I could get some good advices here. I am a junior and planning on applying 2008 cycle. My GPA is around 3.39, gonna take the DAT in may. I also have over a year of shadowing a general dentist, TA, some volunteer hours, member of board of committee at a local health clinic, 2 year research experience. What should I make on the DAT to be competitive?
Is there any chances for me? Or I should wait 1 more year and try improve my GPAs first? Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance

Ok I would've hoped for a 21 plus since your GPA is lower than 3.5.
I can almost guarantee you a good chance at your "reasonable" top choice if you get a 23 plus.
There are other things u can do such as further research and getting pubished. Or take additional science classes such as microbiology or anatomy. Dental schools like that.

All you need is better than a 17 Dat

To get into a dental school....you might want your DAT to be 19 and above , but to get into a competitive dental school with your GPA...I think you'll need to hit around 20+

There are so many factors to consider that nobody can account for. You appear to have above average ECs and an average GPA. What is your science GPA though?

Assuming you get good LORs/committee letter, and apply early, I would imagine average DAT scores will get you interviews at certain schools (namely state/private).

Do some research, the numbers will fluctuate from school to school. After you take the test, call up the schools if you are still concerned, most of them will tell you up front if you should retake it.

Yea, the competition is getting tougher, but don't let SDN intimidate you. Shoot for a 18-21 AA (a very realistic and attainable score) and your app. should be plenty competitive.

One last word of advice: Don't let my own opinion, or the opinion of other members become your database.

Everyone's experience is unique - if you want dependable advice, call the schools you are interested in.
