Hey Everyone!!!

I am a recent college graduate who is looking to make some money before finishing up my pre-med requirements. I am desperately seeking some sort of job in the Boston area that would provide patient exposure while getting paid. I am going to be volunteering in a hospital as well but I am in need of a full time paid position as well.

I have read several forums about CNA vs EMT vs Phlebotomist vs ER Tech and I need further advice about what to do. I am not certified in anything other than CPR, AED and first aid. I also would like to avoid having to spend a ton of money to become certified in something, especially if it is unneeded.

From what I have read it sounds like ER Tech jobs are great in terms of patient exposure and some hospitals train you during the job instead of requiring prior certification. Do you agree that this is a good way to go? Do any of you know of great jobs in the Boston area?

Thank you all so much, looking forward to hearing your responses!!!!😳

Hi,

I replied to your PM. But in short, you should take whatever comes along. That experience will help you get a better job down the line, such as an ED tech position. Once you begin work in the ED, you'll be trained (probably) in phlebotomy, EKG, splinting, etc.

Certification wise, perhaps go with whatever is shortest. CNA, EMT, or medical assisting might be the best bets. Phlebotomy, and pharmacy tech are some others.

I also mentioned an equipment tech position. Another option is hospital transport. From these you can make friends. I forgot to mention being an "orderly" in the OR. Get to job searching online, and you'll find some things you can at least apply for.
