Well, i guess we are getting close to the end of the 2010 cycle. I had one interview and didn't get an acceptance yet (I guess its still possible though). So... I'm starting to think about re-applying for the 2011 cycle. Does anyone have any experience with this? Do I need to get all new LOR's, have my transcripts and dats resent, and pay all the fees again? Am I missing anything? 😉

hi, yes unfortunately, you have to resend LOR's and all the other necessary documents and fees. aadsas does not carry anything over. as for LOR's, i had my writers revise my letter by giving them more information about new things that i did to improve my application such as more shadowing, dental research, and community service. i had about the same dat scores as you and also did a postbac but i did retake my dats and got better results. i also applied way early and that really helps. i think retaking my dats, getting dental research, and applying early made the difference for me the second time around. i also applied to a number of schools instead of just the 5 cali schools last time around. gl! =)

It's actually not very late yet buddy. You still have some hope left. You're right about the LORs and everything...if you reapply then you'll have to resubmit everything all over again...also ...AADSAS had the policy that you can't use the same personal statement..(might want to check on that).

I got accepted only about 2 days ago, so don't lose your hope yet.
But I thought about reapplying too since I was in your boat and I started to study for my 2nd DAT since December.

Tell us a little more about how many schools you applied to, when did you apply, how many credits is that post-bacc?

Cause from the looks of it, you have a strong post-bacc performance, and most of your application looks okay. You might still get in this cycle 🙂

Good luck to ya

Hey Gail I think I remember that you interviewed at Maryland? Don't worry too much yet, I was accepted March 31st off the waitlist...you just never know! Goodluck!

I took 32 credits at Drexel Medical School, it was a pre-med post bacc program (not including trig and biochem). I applied in August but didn't take the dat until Sept. 30th so my app wasn't complete until just after that. I applied to 12 schools but got rejected immediately from Temple, UMDNJ, and Case because of a 15 QR. I only got one interview at Maryland, my state school, but i got a notice from USC yesterday that I will remain under review until August classes begin. I guess thats a wait-list.

Gail ~ thats good news

I mean, your DAT was finally complete LATE september, so your application was sent out very late, and your still in the running for 2 schools. I'd say if worst comes and you don't get in this cycle, your chances are MUCH higher this coming cycle since im sure you'll be applying early

Good luck to ya

Your GPA is borderline so it is important that this time if you took DAT again, try to score 20+ and apply the very first day the cycle open to 20 schools at least

Apply to Western, Midwestern, NYU, BU, USC, Tuff and any other big private schools to increase your chance.

Here is the very useful thread:

I got the same letter this week, and I'm assuming you havent been asked for an interview yet? I applied in Nov, and this letter means that they are finally getting around to looking at your app. They are handing out interviews till the end of march. I am in the same boat, just have to hang in there. I have had one interview and waitlisted at NYU.

I wouldn't say it is a waitlist. Usually you have to interview before you are waitlisted. You still have time though.

No i haven't been invited for an interview yet, have you?

I've taken the dat twice already, so I'm afraid that i may get even lower scores :scared:. I know I would have to study again, but you never know.

hey have you brought the ADEA book may be it will guide you where to apply. Is 43$ and i has all the phone numbers... after you buy the book call up schools and see whats up.

hey, this time try to do many practice tests as much as you can. I virtually do every thing on this earth related to DAT. From destroyer, kaplan practice tests/midterms/final to barrons (which has many errors).
I really like TOPSCORE and ACHEIVER, try to do both of them 2 weeks before the test. The first time i take the test, i did not do TOPSCORE AND ACHEIVER. Second time, i did both of them.

I hope you get in btw. I know how it feels

It took me 3 cycles to get in, and that was with 3 admission invites my third year. I took the DAT three times. I applied late.. around Aug-sept. but still received 5 pre-december 1st interviews, and 4 post december 1st invterviews. Also, I had a 15 QR on my last DAT and was accepted to Temple, so I don't think that's exactly why they rejected you. I can't stress enough that you need to apply early. Start asking for those LORs early telling them that you would like to have them available around the beginning of June. Revise that personal Statement now and get it reveiwed by a professor or two. Apply to 15 schools or more. I went from applying to 5 schools last year to 15 this year, and it definetly helped me open some doors.
Lastly, you may have to look into taking the DAT one last time. Trust me, I know it sucks to think you have to do this crap over again, but if you really study it effectively, you can be one of those people who "fist pump" in front of the camera at the test center when your score pops up. I wanted to give up, but I didn't. The reward will be so much sweeter for you when your time comes.

Thanks everyone for you input. I really appreciate it and hopefully I will get in somewhere this cycle and wont have to deal with doing this again!

This is really helpful! Thanks everyone! I'm also in the same boat, except I still haven't had any invitations for any interviews at all nor did I do a post-bacc, have been working in a research lab for the past 2 years on top of my shadowing/volunteer work in a dental clinic. So any advice on whether I should apply to a 1 yr post-bacc program or pursue a graduate certificate in health care management and retake the DAT for the 3rd and final time?

It's very confusing, but you don't have to pay the $25 to resend your DAT scores to all of the schools again. If you've paid for them to have access before they will have access again electronically. You'll have to call each school individually they can tell you. They all have the ability to see your scores if you've paid them once, some of them just don't care about making you pay again and are too lazy to look it up electronically and require the $25 piece of paper.

did you do the msp program at drexel?

been in you shoes. Good luck buddy. Hopefully god willing you get in this cycle. If not dont give up. and keep pushing it... & @ the end of the road success will be waiting for you. Keep you head up.

Retake DAT ( please don't hate me, your score is good, but a better score would help you)

I'm also reapplying for the 2011 cycle.
I already took the DAT twice and am afraid that if I take it the 3rd and final time, I will either score the same or do worse (TS19, AA19 and PA18).
Any advice? just go for the third try? but what if I end up with the same scores....
and i got some feedback from someone who used to work in the admissions office and basically told me that I need more clinical experience (more shadowing) + reapply ASAP. But to make sure the dentist I shadow has ties to the school (s) Im applying to.

Hey Gail Cohen and summer89, I want to help you guys do better on your DAT.
Although my 19AA is not good, I have been studying very hard to retake my DAT (if i retake now I am sure it will be higher than 19) so I am sure I can help you guys. If you guys are interested PM me please.
