I have way too many schools on my list, please help me delete the unrealistic schools and feel free to suggest any OOS friendly school I've missed.

Thank you so much!

Elaborate on those schools not accepting CC credits, please. I did my first two years at a state college. What is required to be classified as a CC?

Hey! It's in the ADEA guide, those schools will not accept your prereqs if they are taken at a community college. There is also a link on this form, let me find it

I would take out the following schools for very low/low OOS acceptance:

  1. University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Dentistry (ALA) AL
  2. University of California, San Francisco School of Dentistry (UCSF) CA
  3. Indiana University School of Dentistry (IND) IN
  4. University of Kentucky College of Dentistry (UK) KY
  5. University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Dentistry (UNC) NC
The following schools do accept an okay amount of OOS students, but may be a reach:
  1. University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine (CONN) CT
  2. University of Louisville School of Dentistry (UL) KY
  3. University of Maryland Baltimore School of Dentistry MD
They accept cream of the crop in terms of OOS and although I'm not sure what types of EC's you have or what your background is, 200+ isn't too much (disclaimer: hours don't dictate everything).

All private schools are OOS friendly. I would add Case Western MW-AZ, MW-IL, but would not add ASDOH, MOSDOH.

Thank you! How about UPenn?

Thank you! I am a minority and I agree I don't have a lot of EC. Keeping my fingers crossed!

If you're African American, I would recommend applying to Howard and Meharry.

Other OOS friendly schools that I didn't mention:
Marquette
Temple
Boston
Minnesota (state school - may be a reach)
Pittsburgh

Good luck!

(EDIT: saw your post about your CC credits, so ignore some schools on the list).

UPenn is a private school, so there is no discrimination among IS or OOS. However, it is one of the more difficult schools to get into.

Why apply to Howard and Meharry with her stats, regardless of her race?

Stats are good, but there are no guarantees. It doesn't hurt to throw your net a little wider, especially to schools that have preferences for blacks.

I think her chances of acceptance at better schools is very high due to her stat and minority status. Applying to Howard and Meharry for the sake of "widening the net" seems like a waste of ~ $300 that she can use to apply to better schools, save for interviews, etc.

I personally would take out other private schools and replace them with those schools (i.e USC and Western). Her chances of acceptance somewhere in her state are high enough already, so we can even argue that she doesn't need to apply to more than 10 schools to save money.

I would take off uconn unc and Rutgers as OOS. I applied to these and regretted wasting my money.

I would leave in Maryland. I'm a WA resident and got in there with less hours than you. It's a fantastic school and I think worth applying to/doable with your stats

That's strange. It looked like Pittsburgh and Temple accept IB/AP credits. Have you called them?
AP/IB and CC are not the same thing.
AP/IB = Advanced Placement / International Baccalaureate
CC = Community College

I know that. But I feel like they would be more acceptable towards CC credit than AP/IB.

AP/IB credits have always been more acceptable than CC credits, mainly because the can be "quality controlled" via the exams. Same goes for undergrad schools, many won't accept CC transfer credits but they will take AP/IB credits.

Huh... wow I didn't know that. Thanks for correcting me though! But I think OP should still call the schools and ask about CC credits. Who knows, they might be open to discussion 🙂

Actually it appears to be the other way around for some reason, at least according to doc toothache's recent compilation from the ADEA guide, found here http://forums.studentdoctor.net/thr...-advanced-placement-and-ds-admission.1138556/
But either way, most schools do not seem to find AP/IB and CC to be equivalently acceptable (or unacceptable, rather).

It is possible that some of the data is wrong because I called Temple two times to make sure that they accept IB/AP credits. They said they do.

Depends on the class. I guess I was thinking AP for the English and Psych pre-reqs, not for Bio, Chem, etc. No one takes CC credits if it isn't back up with higher level classes at a 4 year school though.
