A lot of the essays I've read in the Barron's book and in other places have lots of research in them. I'm applying to all the top-ranked research schools, and want to do research as a doctor (but mainly be clinical, so not Mud Phud). HOWEVER, I put very very little research in the personal statement. My personal statement is more about how I like to connect with people and help them, and the fulfillment I get from doing it directly instead of indirectly through research.
I have a lot of research experience, but will top schools see the lack of research in my PS as an indication that I am not that interested in research, or that it doesn't influence my decision to be a doctor that much? Sure they take people every year without research, but them seeing a lack of research motivation would still hurt me.
