Since it's almost Christmas, I thought it would be a good time of year to see which admissions committees/admissions offices have been naughty and which have been nice 😛

A run-of-the-mill rejection, while tragic I'm sure, doesn't qualify as being naughty. Sending an acceptance letter, then sending an "Oops you actually were rejected" could count though 😉 Likewise, being accepted at a school doesn't count either; I'm looking for the schools that bend over backwards for their applicants!

So let's hear your stories, venting, and praise as we move into the holidays

And, as always, good luck with your applications :luck: and be safe over the holidays :hardy:

Temple sending all of its MD applicants a podiatry advertisement after months of silence! 😡

Not terrible, but deserving of maybe one or two coals. 😛

Nice list: North Carolina

UNC has been awesomely accommodative. They even book flight arrangements for you and have current students to pick you up at the Raleigh airport to take you to Chapel Hill. This is MSTP though, admittedly we get treated with a lot more perks.

Jeffersons catered lunch is heads and shoulders over the stale sandwich I've had at most places! We even have proper tables with glass plates and silverware haha

I've heard Columbia does this with their MS Nutrition Program as well.

Yep I remember that one. I am surprised you applied their even though a lot of SDN members stated bad things about the school.

UNC is at the top of my naughty list - completely opaque admissions process, more than three months since my interview without even the courtesy of a "deferred decision" or waitlist notice. Just silence.

Nice List:
UChicago: they gave us ice cream at the end of the interview day and sent accepted applicants a scrub top.

UMich: they gave us tons of UMich swag, a ridiculous video for accepted applicants, rumor has it they just mailed out blankets to accepted applicants, and the admissions staff was super nice when I showed up drenched in my suit.

UPitt: they sent us a Christmas card!

Reading this list I am apparently easily bought...

Unfortunately(or fortunately?) I have no one to add to the naughty list, I had a pretty good experience with all admissions offices I interacted with.

Agree with Tots with UPitt on the nice list! The holiday card was a nice surprise, and they had the best lunch out of any day so far.

Naughty list: Hmm, NYMC because 2/7 of the MMI interviewers were really aggressive and hostile.
Other than that so far, everyone was extremely nice and helpful.

Maybe it's time to give the admissions office a call?

Creighton makes the naughty list.

They sent a rejection email to me then 12 days later I got a rejection letter reaffirming their lack of interest.

Thanks for rubbing it in Creighton.

Jefferson by far makes the nice list. They let you know as soon as they can about decisions, send seasons greetings, and they're just awesome people in general.

Haha

Well I put Creighton on the nice list. Every Thursday they have an "open door" policy where you can call and talk to an admin about your application. The interview lunch was amazing (roast beef, mashed potatoes, carrots, pasta, and more cookies than I could eat). They also sent a Christmas card to me!

Naughty list? I would put Stanford on it. They rejected me while my new MCAT score was pending. Granted my score ended up being lower than what they want (32), they could have waited to see it!

Nice. U of Arizona, Phoenix. New building. Faculty that seems to listen to the students to find out how to teach them better. AdCom that actively participates in the school specific thread and answers questions to help applicants better understand the process that they are going through. Did I mention the awesome new building?

I was put in the hold pool, but would have moved there in a heartbeat and canceled my interview at my state school if I would have been accepted.

MCW for sending Christmas cards... with handwritten names of the people who work in the admissions office!

Expected a $500 gift card to B&N in the envelope also but hey, it's the thought that counts 😛

That's pretty funny though...

Nice list: Jefferson (sent me a holiday greeting in the mail)
Naughty list: Drexel (failed to inform the shuttle drivers about the temporary shuttle passes, resulting in my getting in a heated argument with one of the drivers)

Naughty List: OHSU

Not giving any personal details, but almost all my friends and I hate OHSU with a passion, because they

1) Have a very low IS preference
2) Use "pre-interview hold" to basically reject people outright
3) Sometims don't even respond to applicants
4) Abnormally strong nontrad preference
5) Incredibly long secondary, MMI interview

Yeah, it sucks to live in Oregon

Nice List: U of Arizona Phoenix - The actively participate in the school specific thread and I think I met over 20 students on the interview day which gave me a much better feel for the school than I experienced elsewhere where you meet 3-4 students. They are also super open about how and when they select students.

I asked you about this, as well. I'm super intrigued now. What ethnicity are you? I shall'nt stop until you tell me the truth MedPR!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice list: Brown University

1. Provide shuttles to the aiport/train station after your interview.

2. Admissions staff gave us a map of Providence and pointed out popular restaurants/bars for those of us spending the night

3. The admissions director gave each one of us a hug as we left the medical school building.

Brown is a pretty awesome place

Naughty list. Georgetown. My interviewer told me I was stupid.

From what I gather he is of mixed ethnicities. Mainlanders don't understand this much since most ethnicities are homogeneous on continental USA (hence the whole ethnicity question).

I may have chosen a different school than OHSU for my nice list, but some of your points would have made OHSU part of my good list. Especially #4 and 5.

Beat you to it... 🙂 even though I withdrew from the hold pool, I still think about what it would be like to go where it is not so wet and cold.

Nice list:
UChicago: awesome lunch with deep dish pizza, ice cream after the tour, scrub top with acceptance. By far my most favorite interview day.
Hopkins: the interview day itself was not that impressive. But after the acceptance call from the admission office, I got another phone call from my faculty interviewer just to congratulate me and chat with me for a while. Did not expect it at all.
I do not have any specific school for the naughty list. Guess I'm just lucky to have pleasant experience with all the schools I interviewed at

Plus, the fact that they make a decision on your file a week after your interview is pretty nice. Takes a lot of stress out of waiting and waiting.

Any school that repeatedly emails you about "Twitter Chat This Tuesday!!!!!1111one" and you haven't received an interview invite.

I'm going to put Creighton on the nice list. Personalized acceptance calls are always a plus to me, as are Christmas cards!

I also will put Virginia Commonwealth University on the nice list. My interviewer emailed me and called me after my acceptance. He wanted to congratulate me and see how things are going. That was really nice of him.

Well, his name is MedPR, so I'm going to go with puerto rican. He identifies as URM through his hispanic heritage, but he basically looks caucasian, which is why Drexel questioned it.

Am I right?

I remember when I saw him, I was like there is no way he is Puerto RIcan. I think he looked rather Asian, although I have met some PR's who look more asian than asians. I am PR, btw.

What??? at NYMC it was super chilled for an MMI. and everyone i spoke to said it was really stress free for them also

Nice list - BU

Although i got rejected they were by far the fastest and most efficient at the admissions process. every other school takes their time for no reason.

From what I gather he is of mixed ethnicities. Mainlanders don't understand this much since most ethnicities are homogeneous on continental USA (hence the whole ethnicity question).

Correct! Part of my ethnic background qualifies me as a URM (thankfully). It's not hispanic or african american.

I'm not hispanic and I don't look caucasian (or hispanic).

What school did you see me at? Why didn't you say hello? 🙁

Correct!

I'm not hispanic and I don't look caucasian (or hispanic).

We interviewed at Nova together.

You left before the tour which was when I realized who you were

Nice List: BU and Wright State. Both have extremely helpful staff. The BU admissions staff (are the ladies sitting around at the computers on interview day part of the admissions staff?) isn't as friendly as they seem to be via email/message center though.

Oh, then there were 4 SDNers at the Nova interview. One of them either quit SDN or changed his username.. and if he changed his username I guess that would be you.
