Help selecting schools please

Hi all,

I am getting ready to submit my application and need some help selecting schools. I basically want to know if any of the following schools have low out of state acceptance rates, religious preferences, etc. I have looked at the GPA/DAT statistics for most of them, and feel like I have a few matches and some reaches in there. Please let me know if there are any schools in this list that will clearly reject me, so I can eliminate them.

Click on my pre-dents profile link on the left to see my stats. Also, I have good EC's - tons of leadership, currently work as dental assistant, and buncha shadowing. My letters are pretty good as well.

Here are the schools I have narrowed my list down to thus far:

Loma Linda University (LLU)
University of California, San Francisco (UCSF)
University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA)
University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry (UOP)
University of Southern California (USC)
University of Illinois at Chicago (ILL)
Harvard School of Dental Medicine (HVD)
Tufts University (TUF)
Boston University Henry M Goldman School of Dental Medicine
University of Maryland (MYD)
University of Michigan (MICH)
University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV)
New York University (NYU)
Columbia University College of Dental Medicine (CUL)
University of Pennsylvania (PENN)
University of Pittsburgh (PITT)
The Maurice H. Kornberg School of Dentistry, Temple University (TEMP)
Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU)
University of Washington (WASH)

LLU is religiously inclined I think. I would take out UW and UIC b/c they aren't really OOS friendly. Also, I don't think you have that great a shot at Harvard, so I wouldn't waste money there.

Haha yea, I wanted to apply to Harvard just for kicks, so I threw it in that list. But I should probably just save money instead.

Is UW really not OOS friendly? I kinda wanted to apply there because I have a buncha family in the area, but if it's that bad then I probably should not apply?

Anyone else? What do you guys think about the rest of the schools?

Well don't let me discourage you from applying to UW. If you have a lot of family there then sure, go ahead and apply. It's not like they don't take any out of staters, just a small amount.

If I were you, (which I'm in same shoes as you are)
I would apply everyt single schools that accpets Out Of State (OOS) students.
Don't limit yourself to schools that will accept you or not.
You only have ONE chance for dental school.

I'm too lazy to look you up on predents. So, I'm just gonna tell you what I know about these schools.

Loma Linda University (LLU) ...It's a Christian school. So, don't apply unless you're Christian.
University of California, San Francisco (UCSF)....In vs. out of state (66/14)
University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA)...In vs. out of state (73/15). Extremely competitive. Don't apply unless you have 20+ on your DAT.
University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry (UOP)...Private school, so no real residency restrictions. You better have a high PA and RC score if you're thinking UoP.
University of Southern California (USC)...Private School with no residency restrictions. They're not too crazy about applicants who have completed lots of units at CC. Extremely expensive.
University of Illinois at Chicago (ILL)
Harvard School of Dental Medicine (HVD)
Tufts University (TUF)
Boston University Henry M Goldman School of Dental Medicine
University of Maryland (MYD)
University of Michigan (MICH)
University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) ...Give primary preference to NV residents. However, you may still have a chance if you have an early application and 19+ scores on the DAT.
New York University (NYU)
Columbia University College of Dental Medicine (CUL)
University of Pennsylvania (PENN)
University of Pittsburgh (PITT)
The Maurice H. Kornberg School of Dentistry, Temple University (TEMP)
Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU)
University of Washington (WASH)...Don't waste money and time, unless you're a washington resident.

I applied to Harvard for kicks too and I will be attending there in the fall. I thought that I would regret not trying and never knowing if I could do it. So I say go for it!

How would anyone be able to give you advice if we don't even know your GPA or DAT scores?
