I am 23, 2 years of credits. Took some time off, would like to pursue a career in dentisty. I had a relatively low gpa when I left, around a 2.0. If I were to return and put my mind to it and truly dedicate myself, I know I can do really well. The question I have is would dental schools even bother with my application since my first 2 years were not so great? (let's assume DAT scores are above avg)

Thank you very much

You would need to do exceptionally well for all of the prerequisites, upper div classes and other classes too. Since it was 2.0 for the first two years, you would need 4.0 for the equal amount of credits to even get to 3.0. As long as you have a very strong upward trend, and do well on the DAT, you will have a chance.

Did you take a lot of science classes in those two years?

I took no science classes in those 2 years.

I would initially start at a community college this summer with some chemistry/bio classes and eventually transfer.

Then you're good. Even if you have an average overall GPA, a strong science/BCP GPA will indicate to the adcom that you can handle dental school. You're in a good position. Good luck.
