Help! Slight upward trend...

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So just to clarify...any feedback on which schools I have a realistic shot at would be really helpful!! I have completed about 1/4 of my secondaries so far, and as I continue to receive them, I would like to know how to prioritize them. Also, will getting most of my secondaries out by early August help my chances at all?

My top choices would prob be NYC schools, but I realize they are extremely competitive...do you think I have a chance at ANY of them?

Thank you!

Haha where is the love? I would really appreciate ANYY feedback!

😀 Thanks.

You are almost EXACTLY the same as me stats-wise. (3.69 cum and 3.58 sci with 33 MCAT)

As for ECs, I'm worried you may be a little light. The clinical work is good but I don't see any clinical volunteering listed. Some schools can be stingy about that. I'm assuming the leadership is as good as you say. The one semester of research may look a little suspicious (as in schools may ask why you are suddenly starting now) but its better than nothing.

Also, your list seems too top-heavy, though that may just be because your list is so long. I know you've spent a lot of money already, but I would recommend adding some mid tier private schools like Tulane, Creighton, SLU and Loyola as well as your state schools (assuming they are not there are already)

As for your chances in New York, you are above average for Albany and I think right at the average for New York Medical College though I could be wrong.

Be prepared to explain some of your low grades from your earlier semesters. Based on stats, you have an 80.6% chance of matriculation. (http://www.aamc.org/data/facts/applicantmatriculant/table24-mcatgpagridall2007-09.pdf)

Yeah I am a bit worried about my ECs too. While I do believe my leadership is good, I realize I sort of pushed off research for too long. It was never something I thought I liked, so naturally I avoided it for a while. 😴

However, after being involved with both lab and clinical research I realized that I REALLY do enjoy it. The clinical research in particular has been a great experience because I have had the chance to see how research can impact patient care. I figured that after this summer working full time doing clinical research + the time I did it last semester may be enough that med schools wont raise their eyebrows but idk!

Also, I just wanted to clarify that I volunteered at an affordable clinic for a year...sorry if it was not clear since I did say "worked".

Since you don't have a ton of research & your GPA's are on the low side for top 20's, I would suggest swapping a few of those out for mid tier schools and a few true safeties.

@Eggs, I think that is good advice. Even if I do not swap, I would be willing to add more mid tier and safeties to my list. Like I said above, I am sort of prioritizing my secondaries and tried to work on the more realistic ones first.

With that being said, do you have any safeties/mid tier schools in mind that you suggest. (Ioriscrub recommended a few already)

Bump!

So I am still looking for some other mid-tier/safeyish schools to add that fit with my stats?

Does anyone have any suggestions?
